Scull’s father, Antonio, won three Olympic medals playing as a first baseman for Cuba. Anthony started his own path in baseball by signing with the Angels for $235,000 in September 2021. It took a while for the outfielder to show the Angels anything, getting into just 10 games in the Dominican Summer League after signing, then missing most of the 2022 season with a shoulder injury sustained when diving for a ball in the outfield. He did play a full slate of Arizona Complex League games in 2023, showing glimpses of some playable tools.
Scull has a strong and athletic frame with the ability to do some damage from the left side of the plate. He makes a lot of hard contact, registering some of the better exit velocities in the lower levels of the Angels' system. He doesn’t strike out a ton, but he can be a bit too aggressive at the plate. It’s more of a line-drive swing right now, but there’s raw power to tap into with the potential to hit around 15 homers annually once he matures physically and with his approach.
An above-average runner, Scull can play all three outfield spots with an average arm. He saw more time in center field than anywhere else in 2023 and he does have a chance to stay there should he develop into a regular at one position. A more likely outcome is for him to be a solid fourth outfielder type who moves around and provides a left-handed bat off the bench.

At the top of the Angels' 2021 international signing class was Denzer Guzman, the shortstop who signed for $2 million at the start of the January start of that signing period. Several months later, in September, they had enough international bonus pool money to bring Scull in for $235,000. The Cuban outfielder played very briefly in the Dominican Summer League that summer then missed most of the 2022 season with a shoulder issue. Fully healthy in 2023, he's turned in a strong performance in the Arizona Complex League.
An athletic outfielder and left-handed hitter (and thrower), Scull shows glimpses of several exciting tools. He's posted some of the better exit velocities of any Angels prospects at the lower levels, and while there is still work to be done on his overall approach, he's managed to keep his strikeout rate down. He's flashed plus raw power, something he should get to more as he continues to mature and gain more polish at the plate.
Scull can use his speed to steal some bases, and it also helps him in the outfield. He's shown the ability to play all three spots, with an average arm, spending most of his time in center. He was just 19 for all of the 2023 season, and given that it was his first healthy campaign, the Angels are excited to see what he might be able to do moving forward.
