After signing with the Dodgers for $75,000 out of Aruba in 2022, Albertus slashed .303/.449/.415 in his first three pro seasons. He fractured his left tibia a month after getting promoted to Single-A at age 19 in mid-2024 and joined the White Sox shortly thereafter in a three-team trade that shipped Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham to the Cardinals and Michael Kopech to Los Angeles. He had surgery on his leg in November 2024 and has been slow to recover, playing just eight games on a rehab assignment in Rookie ball last year.

One of the more advanced young hitters in the system, Albertus recognizes pitches well and employs a disciplined approach. He makes regular contact to all fields with a quick right-handed stroke and hangs in well against breaking balls. He was making progress learning to drive balls in the air when he got hurt and should provide 15 homers per year once he returns to health and adds more strength. 

While Albertus had below-average speed even before his leg injury, his high baseball IQ allowed him to play better than that on the bases and in the field. He has the solid arm strength, reliable hands and enough range to get the job done at third base. He has worked hard to improved his defense and also has seen action at shortstop and second base.

Signed by the Dodgers for $75,000 out of Aruba in 2022, Albertus flew under the radar while spending most of his first two pro seasons in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. After he gained some strength and made his U.S. debut in late July 2023, teams repeatedly asked about him in trade talks. The White Sox acquired him last July in a three-team swap that sent Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham to the Cardinals and Michael Kopech to Los Angeles. He didn't play after the deal because of a fractured left tibia that required surgery in November. 

A career .303/.449/.415 hitter in three years at the lowest levels of the Minors, Albertus stands out with his quick right-handed swing, disciplined approach and bat-to-ball skills. He continues to improve at lifting balls in the air and did a better job of using the opposite field last year. The next step will be to add more muscle to his 6-foot-1 frame so he can develop 15-homer power to go with his hitting ability.

Though Albertus has below-average speed, his high baseball IQ helps him play a bit faster than that on the bases and in the field. His solid arm strength, reliable hands and lack of quickness make him best suited for third base, where he's a decent defender with the work ethic to become better. He divided his time equally between the hot corner, second base and shortstop in his first two years as a pro, and Chicago plans on giving him a chance to show what he can do in the middle infield.

Albertus initially flew under the radar in the Dodgers' 2022 international crop, signing for $75,000 out of Aruba and hitting a soft .304 in his pro debut in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. After starting to add some much-needed strength, he batted .309/.447/.479 last summer between the DSL and the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Other teams took note and his name came up repeatedly in trade talks until the White Sox landed him in the three-team deal in July that shipped Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham to the Cardinals and Michael Kopech to the Dodgers.

Even taking into consideration that Albertus has yet to face much in the way of advanced pitching, he has one of most patient approaches in the system, drawing 70 walks versus just 40 strikeouts in his first 85 pro games. He improved the quality of his contact last year, hitting the ball harder and launching it in the air much more consistently. A right-handed hitter, he can get pull-happy at times but offers the upside of a high on-base percentage guy who provides 15-20 homers per season.

Albertus has a high baseball IQ that allows him to play faster than his fringy speed on the bases and in the field. He has solid arm strength and divided his time almost equally between third base, second base and shortstop in his first two pro seasons. He profiles best at second base and could be an average defender there or at the hot corner, while sticking at short is more of a stretch.
