Signed for $10,000 out of the Dominican Republic by the Dodgers in July 2021, Batista pitched well in Rookie ball the following two summers. When Los Angeles needed extra cash to acquire Korean right-hander Hyun-Seok Jang last August, it shipped Batista and fellow righty pitching prospect Maximo Martinez to the White Sox for $1 million in international bonus pool money. Batista has thrived since jumping to Single-A and has become one of the most interesting young starters in Chicago's system.
Batista operates with a pair of fastballs that sit at 93-94 mph and top out at 96, running four-seamers by hitters up in the zone and sinking two-seamers down by their knees. He can get swings-and-misses with a pair of secondary pitches as well. His tumbling mid-80s changeup has more upside than his low-80s slider.
Batista has an efficient delivery and provides a decent amount of strikes. He has room to add more strength to his 6-foot-2 frame, so he could gain some more velocity. He competes well and his penchant for missing bats and generating weak contact gives him the upside of a No. 4 starter.
