Taurek redshirted his freshman year at St. Mary’s in 2023, then played sparingly the next season. He made it count in 2025, earning second-team All-West Coast Conference honors while hitting .328 with 11 homers and helping the Gaels win the WCC tournament and reach NCAA Regional play. The Mariners liked his swing enough to take a $150,000 flier on him in the 13th round of the Draft, and he went out and hit some more, posting a .336 average over 27 games with Single-A Modesto during his pro debut.
The one thing that seems certain about Taurek is that he can make a lot of contact with a chance to hit at this level. He’s small and compact and so is his right-handed swing, with simple mechanics and direct to the ball action. He does not strike out much -- just 9.5 percent with the Gaels in ‘25 -- and while he’s very aggressive at the plate and doesn’t walk a ton, he also limits chase. He’s not all that projectable from a physicality standpoint, and it’s unclear whether he’ll have that much impact.
Taurek is a bit of a tweener defensively. He doesn’t have enough speed to play center field regularly -- he played left exclusively at St. Mary’s, and that’s where he spent most of his time during his pro debut. But he doesn’t have enough thump to profile as an everyday guy in a corner. The right-right undersized profile is a tough one, but he’s swung the bat well enough to make him interesting.
