The Rangers signed five high schoolers as nondrafted free agents following the shortened five-round Draft in 2020, compared to a total of 12 by the other 29 clubs. The two best prospects in Texas' group are right-handers Trevor Stephan and Curry, with the latter foregoing a commitment to Bucknell to turn pro for the maximum $20,000 allowed under pandemic rules. He spent two seasons in Rookie ball before making the leap to Single-A on a full-time basis in 2023 and winning Carolina League Pitcher of the Year honors after compiling a 2.30 ERA, .163 opponents' average against and 99 strikeouts in 82 innings. 

Curry's fastball parks at 92-94 mph and peaks at 96, playing better than its velocity because of its induced vertical break and the extension he creates with his 6-foot-5 frame. His best secondary pitch is a low-80s slider with horizontal and vertical action that overmatched Single-A hitters. His 82-86 mph changeups cuts and sinks, giving him a reliable third option. 

Curry has a clean delivery and did a better job of keeping his long limbs in sync in 2023, allowing him to throw more strikes. He still needs to add more muscle to his lanky build, and it's possible that he could have two plus pitches and perhaps solid control if he gets stronger and more consistent. He has a ceiling of a mid-rotation starter and more upside than most of the Rangers' young pitching prospects.

The Rangers stocked up on high school nondrafted free agents after 2020's shortened five-round Draft, landing five compared to a total of 12 by the other 29 teams. That group includes Curry, a New York high school product who gave up his commitment to Bucknell to turn pro for $20,000. After spending two years in Rookie ball, he has been one of the best pitchers in the Single-A Carolina League this year. 

Curry has an interesting three-pitch mix that starts with a fastball that plays better than its 90-95 mph velocity thanks to its run and carry as well as the extension he creates with his 6-foot-5 frame. It could become a plus pitch as he adds strength, velocity and consistency, as could his low-80s slider that features both horizontal and vertical action. He also shows some feel for an 82-86 mph changeup with some cut and sink. 

Though he needs to continue to put more muscle on his lanky frame, Curry is doing a better job of keeping his delivery in sync in 2023. He has missed bats throughout his pro career and now he's finding the strike zone with regularity. Still extremely young and projectable, he could become a mid-rotation starter if he continues to improve.
