Pinto originally signed with the Rockies out of Venezuela in July 2019 for $120,000, and came to the Blue Jays organization along with Raimel Tapia in the Randal Grichuk deal in '22. Since then, Pinto’s career has been defined by a string of injuries, but the flashes we’ve seen in between those moments have been tantalizing. Pinto appeared in just 19 games with High-A Vancouver in 2025, but launched seven home runs with a .985 OPS.
Don’t expect Pinto’s power to look like that over the course of a full season, as he’s listed at just 5-foot-6. But his offensive upside, speed and ability to play multiple positions still have real value, even with so little game action in recent seasons. The Blue Jays are planning to simplify things for Pinto, focusing much more on second base alone, and you may not see him running as often, even though he has the ability to steal 30-plus bags a season. If the organization can get him to play in 100 contests, then they can expand his game again in ‘27 and beyond.
Pinto remains a favorite among coaches and staff who have seen these glimpses. He plays the game with his hair on fire, which might not help on the injury front, but there’s still an exciting bench player in here -- and a fan favorite -- if he can stay on the field and develop some actual routines. That health aspect is one of the biggest “what if's” on this list, but Pinto’s raw ability keeps him ranked for at least one more season.

Pinto originally signed with the Rockies out of Venezuela in July 2019 for $120,000, but due to the pandemic and the lost 2020 Minor League season, he didn’t make his professional debut until 2021. Pinto won the Dominican Summer League MVP award that season, batting .360 with a .487 OBP and 41 steals in 54 games. When Pinto was dealt to the Blue Jays with Raimel Tapia for Randal Grichuk, he was an immediate organizational favorite and that hasn’t changed, even as injuries slowed his development. This is a young player who Blue Jays staffers are extremely excited -- and hopeful -- to see for a full season.
Pinto dealt with a rib injury in 2024, which limited him to just 26 games, but he hit .330 with a .951 OPS. He rolled that into an Arizona Fall League season nearly as long, at 25 games, in which he put up a line of .274/.392/.357. Now it’s time for the Blue Jays to see what Pinto can do across 100+ games as a prospect who could pile up stats in several categories. Pinto is just 5-foot-6, but generates enough power to be more than just a speed-and-contact threat. He’s focusing on becoming a better basestealer too, using the athleticism that also makes him a sharp defender all over the diamond. All of the raw tools and the flashes we’ve seen from Pinto have been very encouraging, but again, they’ve only been flashes.
If it all comes together for Pinto, he could someday profile as a fantastic bench piece on a good MLB roster, bouncing between the infield, outfield and pinch-running spots. Pinto gives it everything he's got and surely would become an immediate Blue Jays fan favorite, but the first step is a full, healthy season. Games played will be the most important stat for Pinto in 2025, but if that number finally starts to climb, he’ll command some attention in this system.

Pinto originally signed with the Rockies out of Venezuela in 2019 for $120,000 and came to the Blue Jays in the ‘22 Randal Grichuk trade alongside Raimel Tapia. He was an underrated piece in that deal as the reigning Dominican Summer League MVP and has carried some of that projection over to the Blue Jays, and he has a reputation for playing a max-effort, hair-on-fire brand of baseball.
This works for and against Pinto. He’s dealt with injuries and is still working to slow the game down at times, as his aggression can sometimes teeter on the edge of being reckless. It’s also what will make Pinto the best version of himself if he can control it to the proper extent, so the Blue Jays don’t want him to lose that completely. It’s allowed Pinto to get the most out of his small frame and handle multiple positions on the diamond, though second base and center field seem like his majority-share homes for ‘24 and beyond.
More than anything, Pinto needs to stay healthy and find a groove for his development. He’s entering his age-21 season and hasn’t played above Single-A yet, so there will be challenges awaiting him when he faces more advanced hitting. If Pinto can start to snowball that momentum again, though, there’s an exciting, versatile and athletic player in there who has all the makings of a fan favorite. This is a big year for Pinto and the prospect shine he’s trying to keep alive, but he’s the ultimate example of a prospect who simply needs to get over 100 games in a season and spread his wings a bit.

Pinto originally signed with the Rockies out of Venezuela in July 2019 for $120,000, but due to the pandemic and the lost 2020 Minor League season, he didn’t make his professional debut until 2021. All Pinto did was win the Dominican Summer League MVP that season, batting .360 with a .487 OBP and 41 steals in 54 games. When Pinto was dealt to the Blue Jays with Raimel Tapia for Randal Grichuk, some within the organization believed this could eventually be known as “the Adrian Pinto trade.”
Pinto was challenged with a Single-A assignment in 2022 and hit .242 with a .375 OBP, 24 walks and 32 strikeouts over 47 games. These numbers were a step back, but the Blue Jays loved the playing style they saw in Pinto, who buzzes all over the field at top speed. That matches well with his instincts, and despite the injury-shortened ’22 season due to a hamstring issue, he spent plenty of time at the complex over the winter to make up for lost time.
Listed at just 5-foot-6, there isn’t much size or power projection to Pinto, but his speed and on-base ability should make him a leadoff man at each level. He’ll continue to move all over the diamond, where his raw athleticism gives him potential in both the infield and outfield. Pinto was a candidate to make a major jump in 2023 but quad injuries have kept him on the injured list again for much of the summer. He needs to stay healthy and on the field to reach his otherwise intriguing potential.

Pinto signed with the Rockies for $120,000 out of Venezuela in July 2019 as part of the same international class that added Adael Amador to the Colorado system. The pandemic pushed back his organizational debut to 2021, but he quickly took off from there, hitting .360/.486/.543 with 41 steals and an astounding 18/38 K/BB ratio over 54 games in the Dominican Summer League. He moved to the Blue Jays system with Raimel Tapia in the Randal Grichuk trade last March, and Toronto decided to skip him over the stateside complex with an assignment straight to Single-A Dunedin, where he’s held his own.
Listed at 5-foot-6, 156 pounds, Pinto may look diminutive out on the diamond but he plays like a player with his hair on fire. His plus speed can create havoc on the basepaths and should make him a quality leadoff man at any level. That designation is aided by the fact that the 19-year-old protects the plate well and shows advanced knowledge of the zone for a player at his age and experience level. As expected for someone his size, there isn’t much power to his swing, but he can run into the occasional 100+ mph exit velocity.
Pinto has played some shortstop in his first two seasons, but he isn’t an everyday player there. The Jays like his chances of being a really good defensive second baseman or even center fielder because of his speed and arm. He was certainly an admirable up-the-middle acquisition as a low-level trade addition in the spring.
