Scouting Report

2025

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Slider: 50 | Curveball: 50 | Changeup: 40 | Control: 45 | Overall: 45

Most of the international prospects who make headlines for signing are 16- or 17-year-old phenoms who get six- or seven-figure bonuses. Then there are the under-the-radar types like Bohorquez, who signed out of Venezuela for just $10,000 in January 2023 at the ripe old age of 18. He didn’t jump off the page during his Dominican Summer League debut after signing, but opened a lot of eyes by pitching his way from the Florida Complex League to full-season Fort Myers during his U.S. debut in 2024. After a ho-hum start to 2025, something seemed to click in the second half, with the right-hander posting a 2.47 ERA and .185 batting average against from July 1 through the end of the season, a span that included a solid stretch of six outings up in High-A to close out the year.

Bohorquez can miss bats with all four of his pitches, as evidenced by his 27.2 percent strikeout rate in 2025, and he racked up a better K rate up a level in Cedar Rapids. His fastball now averages close to 95 mph and is up to 98 as a starter with good carry. His 88-90 mph slider could be a true out pitch in time and he continues to register high spin rates with his low-80s curve that features good depth. His changeup remains a work in progress, but it also has shown depth when he’s executing the pitch correctly.

Command and control have been issues for the 6-foot-1 since he joined the Twins organization, but in that July-September stretch, he walked just 2.47 per nine. That’s still a relatively small sample size and there’s still high variance here, but there’s more of an up arrow next to his name as he approaches his age 21 season in 2026.

2024

While the Twins went aggressively after international talent at the start of the 2023 signing period, handing out three seven figure bonuses -- two north of $2 million -- they also may have found some pitching talent at bargain rates, much like they discover arms in the later rounds of the Draft. They gave Bohorquez just $10,000 to sign out of Venezuela as a slightly older (age 18) right-hander. After a nondescript debut in the Dominican Summer League after signing, Bohorquez came stateside in 2024 and put his name on the map by pitching his way from the Florida Complex League to full-season Fort Myers.

A 6-foot-1 right-hander, Bohorquez has the chance to have a legitimate four-pitch mix if it all clicks. He typically throws his four-seam fastball at around 94 mph, but he was up to 98 mph in 2024, and while there isn’t much physical projection, it’s still easy to predict more consistent velocity as he gets more mound time. His best secondary offering is his slider, which he throws often, typically around 87-88 mph, but he also has an upper-70s curve with a lot of depth. His changeup is a below-average pitch right now, thrown around 90 mph and featuring some depth and fade at times.

In addition to refining his off-speed arsenal, Bohorquez needs to keep working on his command in order to have a chance to start. He did find the zone more frequently in the FCL before struggling to throw strikes once he moved up to full-season ball. There’s plenty of time to let him hone his craft as a starter, though that fastball-slider combination could be very impressive in a bullpen role.
