Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 60 | Splitter: 45 | Control: 45 | Overall: 50

Serwinowski attracted little scouting attention as a South Carolina prepster but landed a $125,000 bonus from the Reds as a 15th-rounder in 2022. He repeated Rookie ball before his development began to accelerate the last two seasons, and the Dodgers acquired him last July as part of a three-team trade that sent Hunter Feduccia to the Rays. Serwinowski led the High-A Midwest League in strikeouts (136 in 108 2/3 innings) and strikeout rate (29 percent) while ranking second in opponent average (.224).

Serwinowski gained fastball velocity as he added strength to his 6-foot-5 frame, and he now deals at 92-96 mph with occasional forays into the upper 90s. It plays as a plus pitch because of its combination of extension, spin and carry. His low-80s slider also features high spin rates with sweeping action that produced a 43 percent swing-and-miss rate in 2025.

Because his fastball and slider are so effective, Serwinowski has yet to refine a third offering, with his upper-80s splitter flashing tumble but lacking consistency. His deceptive delivery is tough on hitters because of his extremely short action with natural extension. He could be a mid-rotation starter if he polishes his splitter as well as his control and command, and perhaps a high-leverage reliever if he doesn't.

2025

Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 60 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 45 | Overall: 50

Serwinowski was not on many scouting radars when the Reds signed him out of a South Carolina high school for $125,000 in the 15th round of the 2022 Draft. Cincinnati brought him along slowly, not promoting him to full-season ball until 2024, and he has fared well at two Class A levels in the past two years. The Dodgers acquired him as part of a three-team trade this July that sent catcher Hunter Feduccia to the Rays.

Serwinowski keeps adding velocity as he packs more strength onto his 6-foot-5 frame, and he's now sitting at 93-96 mph and touching 101 with plenty of spin and carry on his fastball. He backs up his heater with a low-80s slider with high spin rates and sweeping action. He's developing an upper-80s changeup with fade that shows the potential to become an average pitch.

As if his fastball/slider combination wasn't tough enough to deal with, Serwinowski also provides plenty of deception with an extremely short arm action and natural extension in his delivery. His control and command are works in progress but are showing improvement. He has No. 3 starter upside and Los Angeles can afford to be patient with his development.

2024

Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 55 | Control: 40 | Overall: 40

Heading into the 2022 Draft, Eastside HS in South Carolina had just one draftee in history, and right-hander Jarrett Thomason did not sign as a 46th-round pick in 2010. In 2022, the school outside of Greenville had a pair of arms selected -- both lefties -- and both signed. The Phillies took Mavis Graves in the sixth round and the Reds got Serwinowski in Round 15, signing him for $125,000. He threw just one inning after signing in the Arizona Complex League and then returned to the ACL for a longer, and fairly successful stint in 2023.

Serwinowski has gone through some fairly extreme physical maturation since he joined the pro ranks. When the 6-foot-5 southpaw first joined the organization, he was a soft-tosser who topped out at around 90 mph. Since that time, he’s added a lot of strength and a good amount of velocity with a fastball that touches the upper-90s, albeit in shorter stints as the Reds have been cautious with his development. He complements it with a power curve with sharp break that could be a plus pitch in time.

Right now, Serwinowski is pretty much a two-pitch pitcher and he’ll need to work on refining his command of his go-to offerings. He’ll also need to find a usable third pitch, with some thinking his delivery is more suited for a cutter than a true changeup. There’s a lot to work with here, and it seems like he might just be getting started at unlocking his potential.

2023

Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 50 | Control: 40 | Overall: 40

The Reds had a strong 2022 Draft class, selecting 10 players from MLB Pipeline’s Top 250 list. Adding to that influx of talent has been the emergence of Serwinowski, who Reds scouts did an outstanding job of recognizing his willingness to sign. Taken in Round 15 out of the South Carolina high school ranks and signed for $125,000, Serwinowski was a definite long-term project, one who threw just one inning the summer after he was drafted then opened up a lot of eyes in the summer of 2023 in the Arizona Complex League.

Serwinowski brought size -- he’s 6-foot-5 -- arm strength and left-handedness with him into pro ball. Added physical strength over the last year has helped that play up. The young southpaw features a fastball that typically sits in the 94-96 mph range. He backs it up with a good slider, thrown in the low 80s, that misses a lot of bats.

Still more thrower than pitcher, Serwinowski made some nice steps towards learning how to pitch in 2023. He still needs to add a changeup and there’s work to be done on his control and command, something that could come as he continues to add strength and get professional reps.
