Tiger began his junior college career at Butler County (Kan.) CC during the shortened 2020 season, was out of school in 2021 and then returned for the next two years. He set school records for single-season (121) and career (243) strikeouts as well as career wins (21) in 2023 and became a rare 22-year-old juco draftee when the Rangers made him the highest pick (seventh round) in Grizzlies history. He impressed in a brief pro debut that included six strikeouts in three hitless innings in the Single-A Carolina League playoffs.
Tiger's four-seam fastball parks at 94-97 mph and tops out at 100 with carry but only modest life, and he maintains his velocity deep into games. His upper-80s slider touches 92 mph with two-plane depth, inducing a lot of empty swings, though he'll have to prove he can land it for strikes when hitters don't chase it. Texas had him scrap a traditional mid-80s changeup and install an upper-80s splitter with promising tumble.
A quality athlete with a clean delivery, Tiger provides a decent amount of strikes. He does lack fastball movement and overall deception, so his stuff gets hit harder than it should at times. The Rangers will work with him to improve his pitch shapes and perhaps add a curveball to give him a softer option, seeing a potential No. 3 starter who also offers some intrigue as a relief option.
