Rodden’s professional profile is built around versatility, competitiveness and high baseball IQ. After two years at Seminole State College in Oklahoma, he transferred to Wichita State, where he posted a huge senior season that earned him American Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors. Though originally drafted as a junior in the 10th round by the A’s in 2022, he returned to school and elevated his stock, leading to a fifth-round selection in 2023 by the Mariners, who signed him for $200,000. Rodden hit well with High-A Everett in his full-season debut, earning a bump to Double-A. He returned there in 2025 and kept the bat going, finishing with an .822 OPS despite injuries getting in the way.

An undersized switch-hitter, Rodden has consistently shown bat-to-ball skills and plate discipline, though the jump to Double-A saw strikeouts rise and contact become less consistent. Over two years at Wichita State he hit 34 home runs, and he added 14 in his first full pro season. But Rodden projects as a low-power bat as he moves up, with just five homers at Arkansas. His game will rely heavily on making consistent contact and drawing walks to create offensive value, and he did a better job at that while hitting .342 during an 11-game stint in the Arizona Fall League.

Defensively, Rodden has the versatility to play second base, third, shortstop and potentially the outfield, and his plus speed helps him defensively and on the basepaths, where his strong instincts make him a base stealing threat. Scouts are particularly encouraged by his sneaky utility potential at the Major League level. Among big league comps, Leo Rivas has been floated. Beyond tools, Rodden brings leadership and a grinder mentality that sets the tone for younger teammates, making him a candidate to contribute as a versatile, switch-hitting option on a future big-league roster.

Rodden took the junior college route out of high school, then went to Wichita State after two years at Seminole State College in Oklahoma. He was one of just three players taken in the Top 10 rounds of the 2022 Draft that opted to go back to school, returning to the Shockers after the A’s took him in Round 10. He had a huge senior year to win American Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors and he jumped up to the fifth round, where the Mariners signed him for $200,000. After hitting very well with High-A Everett during his full-season debut, he got pushed to Double-A at age 24, though he struggled at the level.

An under-sized switch-hitter, Rodden has shown good bat-to-ball skills and a disciplined approach at the plate, though that unraveled a bit and the strikeouts piled up more once he got to Arkansas. He hit 34 homers over two years at Wichita State and finished his first full pro season with 14, but there’s not going to be a ton of power as he keeps moving up, so he’s going to have to really make a ton of contact and draw a lot of walks.

Rodden is a plus runner and combines that with good instincts on the basepaths. He’s best suited to play second base defensively, but his bat is unlikely to profile as an every day player at the position. He’s seen time at third and at shortstop, which also won’t work at the highest level, so there’s a chance the Mariners give him the chance to see how his athleticism plays in center field so that he can possibly carve out some kind of utility role.

After spending two seasons at Seminole State College, a two-year school in Oklahoma, Rodden moved on to Wichita State and made a very strong first impression with an OPS over 1.000. He turned down the opportunity to start his pro career as the A’s 10th-round pick in 2022 and performed even better for the Shockers in 2023 (1.175 OPS), earning American Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors. It also helped him jump up to the fifth round, where he signed with the Mariners for an under-slot $200,000. Seattle started him in High-A Everett to kick off his first full season and he hit well enough there to earn a bump up to Double-A a month after his 24th birthday.

Rodden is an undersized switch-hitter with the ability to produce quality at-bats from both sides of the plate. Even though he did hit 17 homers in his final year at Wichita State, and there is some extra-base authority, he has a definite hit-over-power profile. He doesn’t strike out much and draws a good amount of walks.

An above-average runner who is aggressive on the basepaths, Rodden fits best at second base if he were to settle in at one position. It’s more likely he moves around defensively with the chance to fit that over-achieving, gritty utility type of profile in the big leagues.
