Thomas exhibited some of the best bat-to-ball skills in the Texas high school ranks in 2022, but he missed time with a wrist injury and was unsignable from a Texas commitment, so he went undrafted. Two years later, he's one of the best pure hitters and top sophomore-eligible prospects in the 2024 Draft. He's adding to his value by showing he can play center field in addition to first base for the Longhorns.
Thomas has good feel for the barrel and doesn't try to do too much at the plate, letting his pretty left-handed swing work for him. He has traded some contact for power this spring, hitting the ball harder and showing that he should be able to provide 15-20 homers per season. He offers one of the higher floors among college bats and his ceiling continues to rise as he displays more pop.
To complement his hitting ability, Thomas offers several other promising tools. He's a solid runner and quicker once he gets going, though he's not much of a basestealer. He provides a plus glove at first base and also is a solid defender with arm strength to match in center field.

Though scouts rate him as the second-best pure hitter in the North Texas prep class behind likely first-rounder Jett Williams, Thomas doesn't have nearly as a high profile. That may be because his commitment to Texas is so strong that he may not be signable, and also because he missed some time this spring with a right hand injury. He easily could develop into a top-three-rounds pick as a Draft-eligible sophomore in 2024.
Thomas has a sweet left-handed swing that stays in the hitting zone for a long time, and he consistently has competitive at-bats. Mature at the plate, he focuses on making hard contact from gap to gap rather than trying to do too much. With his hitting ability and bat speed, he should develop at least average power once he adds muscle to his 6-foot-2 frame.
Along with his promising bat, Thomas also offers plenty of athleticism. He's a plus runner with good instincts on the bases and at the outfield corners. The author of two no-hitters this spring as a left-handed pitcher, he has average arm strength and a chance to stick in right field.
