Heading into the 2022 Draft, Eastside HS in South Carolina had just one draftee in history, and right-hander Jarrett Thomason did not sign as a 46th-round pick in 2010. In 2022, the school outside of Greenville had a pair of arms selected -- both lefties -- and both signed. The Phillies took Mavis Graves in the sixth round and the Reds got Serwinowski in Round 15, signing him for $125,000. He threw just one inning after signing in the Arizona Complex League and then returned to the ACL for a longer, and fairly successful stint in 2023.

Serwinowski has gone through some fairly extreme physical maturation since he joined the pro ranks. When the 6-foot-5 southpaw first joined the organization, he was a soft-tosser who topped out at around 90 mph. Since that time, he’s added a lot of strength and a good amount of velocity with a fastball that touches the upper-90s, albeit in shorter stints as the Reds have been cautious with his development. He complements it with a power curve with sharp break that could be a plus pitch in time. 

Right now, Serwinowski is pretty much a two-pitch pitcher and he’ll need to work on refining his command of his go-to offerings. He’ll also need to find a usable third pitch, with some thinking his delivery is more suited for a cutter than a true changeup. There’s a lot to work with here, and it seems like he might just be getting started at unlocking his potential.

The Reds had a strong 2022 Draft class, selecting 10 players from MLB Pipeline’s Top 250 list. Adding to that influx of talent has been the emergence of Serwinowski, who Reds scouts did an outstanding job of recognizing his willingness to sign. Taken in Round 15 out of the South Carolina high school ranks and signed for $125,000, Serwinowski was a definite long-term project, one who threw just one inning the summer after he was drafted then opened up a lot of eyes in the summer of 2023 in the Arizona Complex League.

Serwinowski brought size -- he’s 6-foot-5 -- arm strength and left-handedness with him into pro ball. Added physical strength over the last year has helped that play up. The young southpaw features a fastball that typically sits in the 94-96 mph range. He backs it up with a good slider, thrown in the low 80s, that misses a lot of bats.

Still more thrower than pitcher, Serwinowski made some nice steps towards learning how to pitch in 2023. He still needs to add a changeup and there’s work to be done on his control and command, something that could come as he continues to add strength and get professional reps.
