The Red Sox signed Venezuelan outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia for $350,000 in 2019, then added his younger brother, Johanfran, for $850,000 three years later. He received the third-highest bonus in Boston's 2022 class and has emerged as the best prospect among that group. He made his U.S. debut in 2023 and slashed .302/.408/.497 in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League, ranking among the top 10 in all three categories, before spending the final month in Single-A at age 18.
Garcia is stronger than most teenagers and already displayed aptitude for driving the ball in the air. He lets his power come naturally, managing the strike zone while distributing balls to all fields. While his right-handed stroke can get long, he could hit for a decent average while providing 20 homers per season.
Garcia has well-below-average speed yet moves well behind the plate. He made significant improvements with his receiving, framing and blocking in 2023 and looks on course to becoming an average defender. He has solid-to-plus arm strength and threw out 38 percent of basestealers in his first two years as a pro.

After signing Venezuelan outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia for $350,000 in 2019, the Red Sox landed his younger brother Johanfran for $850,000 three years later. That was the third-highest bonus in their 2022 international crop, behind seven-figure shortstops Fraymi DeLeon and Freili Encarnacion, and he has outperformed them both so far. An offensive-minded catcher, he's making his U.S. debut this summer and has been the best hitter on Boston's Rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate.
A right-handed hitter, Garcia is strong for a teenager and already shows the ability to drive balls in the air, giving him 20-homer potential. He shows some feel for hitting as well, using the entire field and displaying a reasonably disciplined approach. He has destroyed lefties and fared fine against righties early in his career.
Garcia has improved his receiving and blocking from his first pro season to his second and can become an average defender behind the plate. He has solid to plus arm strength and eradicated 45 percent of basestealers in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League during his pro debut. Though he's a well-below-average runner, he has decent instincts on the bases.

Garcia is built like Yadier Molina. He’s husky, strong and extremely durable. And while he could eventually develop into an all-around defender like Yadier, Garcia is better known for his bat over his defense at this stage of his career.
The teen simply has a great feel for hitting and performs well at the plate in games and showcases. He has displayed the ability to spray the ball all over the field with authority and has what has been described as “sneaky” pull power to his pull side.
He’s no slouch on defense. He has average hands and projects to have an average arm. He moves well behind the plate and continues to work on his blocking and receiving skills.
Garcia trains with Jonathan Valdez in Venezuela. The Red Sox are the favorite to sign him.
