After pitching with his older brother Tristan (now with the Giants) as a freshman in 2018, Beck served as the Cardinal's Opening Day starter in each of the next three years. The Pacific-12 Conference pitcher of the year in 2021, when he ranked fourth in NCAA Division I with 143 strikeouts in 108 2/3 innings, he signed for a below-slot $1.05 million as a second-rounder. Tommy John surgery that September delayed his pro debut until 2023 and he missed all of the next season after a follow-up elbow procedure, but he returned in 2025 to dominate Double-A and reach Triple-A. 

Beck's control and command are more impressive than any of his individual pitches, the best of which is a solid low-80s slider with two-plane depth. His low-90s fastball peaks at 94 mph without much life and his upper-70s downer curveball are both fringy but he survives because he locates them well. He has little faith in a low-80s changeup with modest sink. 

A good athlete, Beck repeats his delivery with ease while working fast. Not only does he fill the strike zone better than any Yankees farmhand, but he also moves his offerings around all four quadrants to keep hitters off balance. Though he reminded some amateur scouts of Shane Bieber at the same stage of their careers, he now projects as more of a spot starter or long reliever.

He bounced back to dominate Double-A hitters this year but has struggled following a promotion to Triple-A.

His low-90s fastball tops out at 94 mph and doesn't feature much life, meaning it grades as a fringy offering, as does his upper-70s downer curveball. His low-80s changeup has some sink but isn't very effective.

Beck is a good athlete who repeats his delivery while working quickly and moving his pitches around the strike zone. He might be the best strike-thrower in the system, which helps him compensate for his so-so stuff. As an amateur, he reminded some area scouts of Shane Bieber at the same stage of their careers, though his ceiling now is more of a back-of-the-rotation starter or middle reliever.

Tristan Beck was a Stanford product who was a fourth-round pick of the Braves in 2018 and is currently a San Francisco Giants prospect. Now it’s his younger brother’s turn, as Brendan started his Cardinal career as a two-way player before focusing on pitching only in 2019. Eligible for the Draft last year, he didn’t go in the top five rounds, enabling him to return and serve as Stanford’s Friday night starter in 2021.

A 6-foot-2 right-hander, Beck is more about his feel for pitching than an eye-popping repertoire, though his stuff was ticking upwards a bit in 2021. His fastball is now more of an average offering, sitting comfortably at 91 mph, and he’s shown the ability to reach back and get 93 mph when he needs it. The rest of his stuff, a distinct curve and slider, as well as a changeup, all grade out as average offerings.

Beck’s ability to mix all four of his pitches and throw them all for strikes allows all of his stuff to play up. He’s fun to watch because he works fast and his combination of strike-throwing and athleticism remind some a little bit of Shane Bieber when he came out of college in 2016. Bieber was a fourth-round pick and seeing Beck go at some point on Day 2 as well seems extremely plausible.
