Bazzana earned passing interest from big league clubs in Australia before deciding to play at Oregon State, where he earned Freshman All-America honors in 2022, then set a school record with 36 steals and won the Cape Cod League MVP award and batting title (.375) the following year. That was merely a prelude to 2024, when Bazzana slashed .407/.568/.911 while ranking second in NCAA Division I in on-base percentage, slugging and OPS (1.479) and smashing another Beavers mark with 28 homers. After signing with the Guardians for a franchise-record $8.95 million as the No. 1 overall pick, he fared well in a 21-game pro debut in High-A.
Bazzana has a compact left-handed swing with quality bat speed and makes excellent swing decisions, leaving him with no obvious weakness at the plate. He rarely chases, makes contact with ease while generating upper-echelon exit velocities and produces against lefties and righties and all types of pitches. His exceptional bat-to-ball skills overshadow his plus raw power, and he gets to most of it while displaying the ability to drive the ball out of the park to the opposite field.
Further enhancing his offensive value, Bazzana is a plus runner with the aptitude to steal and take extra bases. His speed helps him cover ground at second base, where he has quick hands but a fringy to average arm that limits him to the right side of the infield. The offseason trade of three-time Gold Glover Andrés Giménez may make it easier for Bazzana to claim the keystone in Cleveland in the near future, though the club's middle-infield depth also could lead to him becoming a center fielder.

Bazzana drew mild interest from big league teams as an Australian amateur before deciding to play collegiately in the United States and impressing Oregon State at an Arizona showcase. He was a Freshman All-American in 2022, then set a Beavers record with 36 steals and won the Cape Cod League MVP award and batting title (.375) as an encore. He took his performance to another level this spring, slashing .407/.568/.911, finishing second in NCAA Division I in on-base percentage, slugging and OPS (1.479) and breaking another school record with 28 homers. After overcoming long odds to win the Draft Lottery, the Guardians selected him with the No. 1 overall pick and signed him for $8.95 million.
Bazzana has no discernible weakness at the plate, where his lightning-fast and compact left-handed stroke allows him to barrel balls with ease. He makes excellent swing decisions, uses the entire field and consistently produces high-end exit velocities. While he's more hitter than slugger, he gets to most of his plus raw power, and it plays from left field to the right-field foul pole.
Adding to his offense package, Bazzana possesses plus speed and looks to steal and take extra bases. His athleticism gives him range in the middle infield, where his quick hands are an asset, though his fringy to average arm strength limits him to second base. With Gold Glover Andrés Giménez manning the keystone in Cleveland, it's possible that Bazzana's quickest route to the Majors could be as a center fielder.

A native of Sydney, Australia, Bazzana came to the United States and immediately made an impact with a .902 OPS as a freshman. He upped that to 1.122 with 11 homers and 36 steals a year later, then raised his profile even more when he won the Cape Cod League batting title (.375) and MVP Award, putting him near the top of most Draft boards.
The left-handed-hitting infielder is compact and strong with plenty of bat speed. He has an advanced approach at the plate with a ton of raw power he taps into, though he can occasionally be susceptible to offspeed stuff on the outer half. He’s proven he can hit lefties as well as righties. A plus runner, he’s a legitimate base-stealing threat.
While some worry about where he can play defensively, some scouts think he’s going to be just fine at second base. His athleticism helps him have good range, he has enough arm for the spot and he can turn the double play effectively. A second-base profile isn’t one often seen at the top of a Draft, but the conviction in his bat is so strong, he’s going to get a lot of attention in the top 10.
