After signing with the Dodgers for only $17,500 out of Colombia in January 2022, Liñan spent his first three years in the Los Angeles system primarily working out of the bullpen. His big breakout came as a starter in 2025, and he had a 2.78 ERA with 101 strikeouts in 74 1/3 innings across three levels heading into the Trade Deadline, when the Dodgers moved him to the Nationals as part of the Alex Call deal. Washington dealt him again eight months later, shipping him to the Yankees for Jorbit Vivas right before the start of the regular season.
Liñan has a legitimate claim for the best changeup in Minor League Baseball. The 6-foot right-hander throws the 79-82 mph offering like a screwball with significant drop and armside run, and oddly, it’s also his highest-spin pitch. Batters whiffed on 60 percent of their swings against the cambio that earns Devin Williams comps from virtually all that witness it. But how far can Liñan can go on that one pitch alone? He throws a 90-93 mph four-seamer and sinker with ordinary movement that got crushed in ’25; at their best, he can sneak them by batters waiting for the lower-velo changeup. Liñan also has a mid-80s cutter/slider with only slight armside movement.
Liñan looked like he could deliver enough strikes at Single-A and High-A, but his brief runs in Triple-A and the Fall League made that less of a certainty. He could stand to add some extra velocity, and considering he’s only entering his age-21 season in 2026, that remains a possibility. But for now, he’s trending a one-pitch relief role, albeit with that one pitch being excellent.

Though he signed for just $17,500, Liñan has developed into the best pitching prospect from the Dodgers' 2022 international class. The Colombian spent his first two years as a pro in Rookie ball and most of his first three seasons as a reliever before taking a huge step forward in 2025. When pitching injuries in Los Angeles had the snowball effect of decimating the rotation at Triple-A Oklahoma City in May, Liñan was promoted from Single-A for two emergency starts. He was at High-A Great Lakes in July when the Dodgers traded him to the Nationals at the Deadline for Alex Call.
Liñan has one of the best changeups in the Minors, a high-spin cambio that veers sharply down and to the right as it approaches the plate around 80 mph. It plays extremely well off his 91-94 mph fastball, which stands out more with its carry and armside run than its velocity. His tight mid-80s slider/cutter is nothing special but it consistently provides strikes.
Though Liñan is just 6 feet tall, he gets down the mound well and provides plenty of extension. His low release height, as well as his changeup, also add to his deception. He's a potential back-of-the-rotation starter, though he'll need to develop a second better-than-average offering to succeed against more advanced hitters.
