Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 45 | Run: 55 | Arm: 45 | Field: 50 | Overall: 40

Dumesnil looked like he could be a high-round Draft pick after an eye-opening sophomore season at Cal Baptist, including a .362/.440/.702 slash line with 19 homers, and an All-Star season in the Cape Cod League, hitting .311 and leading the circuit in steals (26). A difficult junior season changed his momentum, but the Tigers snagged him in the eighth round, signed him for $214,300 and immediately put him at Single-A, where he made an impact for Lakeland in the Florida State League playoffs.

Strong and athletic, the 6-foot-2 Dumesnil showed the ability to hit with power in college, but his 2025 season came with struggles against spin, notably sliders, and inconsistent power. Both of those continued in Lakeland, where he hit fastballs well but not for much power while whiffing on breaking balls. He’s not a fluid runner but has enough speed and aggressiveness to swipe bases, which he did often in a small sample size for the Flying Tigers.

Dumesnil’s speed does help him cover ground in the outfield and he’s shown he can be solid at all three spots defensively. Some feel he can play center long term, but others feel he’s best suited for a corner, with left being a better option because of his fringy arm strength. Even with the struggles he’s had, the Tigers will try to get him back to 2024 Cape form.

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 60 | Arm: 45 | Field: 50 | Overall: 40

Dumesnil came out of California high school powerhouse Huntington Beach and then headed to California Baptist for college ball. After playing sparingly as a freshman, he burst on the scene as a sophomore in 2024, with a .362/.440/.702 slash line and 19 homers. He kept swinging a hot bat as a Cape Cod League All-Star, hitting .311 and leading the circuit in steals (26), but inconsistencies at the plate in 2025 dampened enthusiasm. He went to the Tigers in the eighth round, signing for $214,300.

Strong and athletic, the 6-foot-2 Dumesnil had previously shown the ability to hit, and do so with power from the right side of the plate. Concerns about how dynamic his swing is have grown as he’s been too stiff at the plate and really struggled with spin, particularly sliders from right-handed pitchers, leading to higher miss rates this year. He also hasn’t gotten to his pop as consistently as he did last year. He’s not a fluid runner but has enough speed and aggressiveness to swipe bases.
