The Mets have had success with former two-way players recently, having drafted and developed Nolan McLean and Carson Benge, and Voit could be their next success story. Voit hit and pitched in his first two years at Michigan before internal brace surgery in July 2024 forced him to focus on being a position player in his Draft year. He hit .346/.471/.668 with 14 homers and a 34/40 K/BB ratio in 56 games as a Wolverines junior, and that performance pushed him to New York with the 38th overall pick. He signed for below slot at $1.75 million and got in 25 games with Single-A St. Lucie afterward.
As can be the case when two-way types hone in their focus on one side, Voit saw improvements nearly across the board in his final collegiate season, particularly when it came to making better swing decisions. Despite relatively down performance in a small sample, he also showed wicked bat speed in the Florida State League, and if that holds up in his first full season, he could stand to be an above-average hitter when combined with the discipline. Voit projects for average power right now, though he could occasionally challenge for 20-plus homers.
Voit has plus speed, and he isn’t afraid of using it to his advantage on the basepaths; he went 20-for-21 in steal attempts in the FSL. Between college and the pros, he got the bulk of his work in at second base, but he sprinkled in some shortstop with St. Lucie and impressed evaluators with how well his athleticism could translate to the more premium position. Voit’s plus arm strength from his pitching days will play anywhere on the dirt, and the Mets plan to keep rotating him to keep his avenues to Flushing wide open.

Voit pulled double duty in his first two seasons at Michigan, serving as a third baseman and reliever as a freshman and then as a first baseman/right fielder and weekend starter last spring. After injuring his elbow that April and having internal brace surgery in July, he focused on hitting and moved to second base in 2025. One of the best all-around hitters in the Big Ten Conference, he showed some similarities to former Wolverines two-way star Jake Cronenworth, and the Mets took him with their first pick at 38th overall, signing him for below at $1.75 million
Now that he's a full-time hitter, Voit has significantly improved his approach, making better swing decisions and barreling balls more regularly. His right-handed stroke can get rotational at times and he can get pull-happy, but he also hits the ball hard and has feel for launching balls in the air. His power plays from the left-field line to right-center and could produce 15-20 homers per season.
Voit's plus speed makes him a basestealing threat and gives him range at second base. Scouts were pleasantly surprised with how quickly he became a reliable defender at the keystone. He has a stronger arm than most at the position and featured a low-90s fastball with a low-80s slider when he pitched in the past.
