Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 45 | Run: 45 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 40

After a notable freshman year at Arizona State in which he was honorable mention All-Pac-12, the Louisiana native transferred closer to home to Mississippi. He proved to be one of the more disciplined hitters in the Southeastern Conference, and his high floor helped him go in the fourth round of the 2025 Draft, where the Guardians signed him to an above-slot $722,600 bonus. The infielder thrived during a 15-game cameo at Single-A, where he slashed .347/.459/.510 with seven steals and as many walks as strikeouts.

Built strongly at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, Hill retains a hit-over-power profile. His combination of strong swing decisions and in-zone contact enables him to run high walk rates, although he can struggle with whiffs when he does swing out of the zone, in particular on secondary pitches. He has a sound right-handed swing and consistently makes strong contact, but his habit of hitting the ball on the ground and the other way caps his power ceiling. If he is able to catch the ball out front more, he could project to hit more than 15 homers per season.

Hill has below-average speed, his weakest tool in a well-rounded skillset, although he's a heady baserunner who may be able to nab double-digit bags in the big leagues. That lack of range caused him to shift from shortstop in college to third base and second, where he's currently splitting time. His average arm should be enough for either position, and he could also see time at first base (or an outfield corner) for increased defensive versatility.

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 45 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 40

After a strong freshman season at Arizona State, Hill transferred to Mississippi and didn't make much impact against Southeastern Conference pitching in 2024. He has raised his profile this spring by continuing to employ a disciplined approach while demonstrating more gap power. A high-floor player who also offers some defensive versatility, he signed for an over-slot $722,600 in the fourth round.

Hill controls the strike zone and makes consistent contact from the right side of the plate. He did a better job of turning on pitches and driving them in the air as a junior, though he still mostly sprays balls from gap to gap and generates a lot of grounders. He understands that his job is to get on base and probably will top out at 15 homers per season.

Hill shows fringy speed out of the batter's box but is a solid runner once he gets going and has good instincts. Primarily a shortstop in his first two college seasons, he moved to third base and second base this spring. He has average arm strength and range, and he profiles best offensively and defensively at second.
