Alvarez was born in Cuba but relocated to the Dominican Republic with his father in December 2021 to begin training for the opening of this year’s international signing period. He draws rave reviews from scouts who have seen his game mature and develop considerably over the past few years, as he has continually improved his all-around skill set. Alvarez trains with Javier Rodríguez at La Alianza in Santo Domingo East.
Alvarez boasts a tremendously advanced left-handed swing for his age. While he does have a slight up stroke, it's counterbalanced by his feel for the strike zone and no fear approach in the box. One evaluator gave him a Kyle Tucker comparison for his setup and bat path, particularly since there is still power to come as Alvarez continues to fill out his frame.
While Alvarez has just an average throwing arm, he takes proper routes to the ball while on the grass and maximizes his athleticism with the glove. He fits the mold of a bat-first corner outfielder in the long term.

Alvarez departed Cuba with his father in December 2021 and moved to the Dominican Republic, where he blossomed into one of the best all-around talents in the 2025 international class. After he signed for $2 million, he stood out with his tools, high baseball IQ and maturity during his pro debut in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. He also starred in the Astros' preseason camp for Minor Leaguers this January, winning the hitting and outfield-defense competitions.
Alvarez's left-handed stroke has natural loft and is so sweet that one scout compared his setup and path to Kyle Tucker's. Just 18, he already makes advanced swing decisions for his age and has an innate feel for contact. With his ability to barrel balls to all fields with ease and a projectable 6-foot-4 frame, he projects as a plus hitter with raw power to match.
Because he'll be quite physical once he's fully developed, Alvarez faces some questions about his ability to remain in center field. He's an average runner with good instincts on the bases and in center, where he makes nice reads and gets quality jumps. If he loses some quickness as he fills out, he'll likely wind up in left field with his fringy arm strength, but his bat will provide enough offense to profile at any position.

For the third time in the last five years, the Astros paid the highest bonus in their international class to a Cuban. Alvarez left the island with his father in December 2021, moving to the Dominican Republic and developing into one of the more well-rounded players in the 2025 crop. He signed for $2 million, earning praise for his tools, high baseball IQ and maturity.
Alvarez has a pretty left-handed stroke with some natural loft, and one scout compared his setup and bat path to Kyle Tucker's. He makes good swing decisions and is a more advanced hitter than most 17-year-olds. His ability to barrel balls and the room to add considerable strength to his 6-foot-4 frame could allow him to develop plus raw power and perhaps more.
Alvarez's instincts allow him to play quicker than his average speed on the bases and in the outfield. He takes good routes and covers enough ground to stay in center field for now, though he'll probably shift to a corner once he matures physically and slows a bit. He has average to solid arm strength and should fit the offensive and defensive profile for right field.
