A two-sport star who excelled on the football field in high school, Campbell focused on baseball only when he headed to the University of Texas. He improved each year and the Dodgers took him in the fourth round of the 2023 Draft after he posted a 1.039 OPS as a Longhorns junior. He spent his first full season of pro ball with High-A Great Lakes and was one of a handful of hitters in the Minors to hit 20 doubles and 10 homers while stealing 40 bases. The Dodgers sent him to the Phillies in January to get international bonus pool money used to sign Roki Sasaki.
Strong and compact, Campbell has a well-deserved reputation for spraying line drives to all fields and was among the best in the Dodgers system last year with his 24.3 percent line-drive rate. His strikeout rate did go up, but he typically has had good pitch recognition and a solid approach, making good swing decisions and there’s confidence he’ll be able to make adjustments as he progresses. He’s not a burner, but he runs well and used his instincts to steal 42 bags in 2024.
While he saw some time on the dirt at the start of his college career, and played a few games at second last year, Campbell has developed into a defensive outfielder. He used his plus arm to pick up 11 outfield assists a year ago and his speed allows him to cover a lot of ground. Right field might be his best spot, but his ability to play all three outfield positions points to a future career as a fourth-outfielder type.

As a Texas high schooler, Campbell put up eye-popping numbers on the football field: 1,569 yards and 21 touchdowns from the running back position during his senior year. But despite his gridiron accolades, he headed to the University of Texas with an eye on the diamond, where he steadily blossomed into a fourth-round Draft selection of the Dodgers in 2023. After getting his feet wet in the Arizona Complex League and Single-A California League that summer, he spent the entirety of his first pro year at High-A Great Lakes in 2024, where he became one of just eight Minor Leaguers to record at least 20 doubles, 10 homers and 40 steals. The Phillies acquired him in January, sending international bonus pool money to the Dodgers in exchange.
Entering pro ball, Campbell had a reputation for spraying line drives all around the field. He backed that up in his first full year, recording a 24.3 percent line-drive rate, seventh among all qualified full-season Dodgers Minor Leaguers. But his first taste of High-A also brought on an increased K rate, as he whiffed 110 times (22.3 percent). Not known as a significant power threat (although he hit six homers in a 15-game stretch during August), Campbell has traditionally made good swing decisions, leading evaluators to believe he’s well suited to making adjustments as he moves up an organizational ladder.
Campbell’s defensive metrics leap off the page, buoyed by his plus throwing arm. He made 60.6 percent of his outfield starts in 2024 in right field, a seamless fit for his cannon as he notched 11 assists on the grass in total. His range receives a boost from his wheels, which also helped carry him to 42 steals on 49 attempts. If Campbell can cut down on some of the early swing-and-miss concerns, there’s a look of speedy big league fourth outfielder to his game.

Though Campbell rushed for 1,569 yards and 21 touchdowns as a Texas high school senior in the fall of 2019, he had a brighter future in baseball than football. He has improved throughout three seasons at Texas, boosting his OPS from .564 as a freshman to .864 last year to 1.039 this spring while compiling a Big 12 Conference-record 38-game hitting streak. Some scouts consider him the best pure hitting prospect among Lone Star State collegians.
Campbell makes good swing decisions and repeated line-drive contact against all kinds of pitching from the right side of the plate. He puts the ball in play almost too easily and could get more out of his hitting ability if he strays out of the strike zone less frequently. He won't be a big power threat but can drive balls to his pull side enough to produce 15 homers per season.
Despite his stocky 5-foot-11, 205-pound build, Campbell possesses solid speed and is a proficient basestealer. His profile would be enhanced if he showed he could handle center field, but he hasn't gotten that opportunity with the Longhorns. He's better suited for right field and has the plus arm strength for that position.
