Scouting grades: Fastball: 50 | Curveball: 50 | Slider: 50 | Splitter: 50 | Control: 50 | Overall: 40

Lohman sat in the upper 80s with his fastball as a junior and didn't attend many showcase events, so he wasn't a high-priority target entering 2025. That changed once his heater started touching 95 mph and he showed the makings of a pair of promising secondary pitches this spring. He could sneak into the top five rounds unless his commitment to Missouri scares teams off.

Lohman works from 91-95 mph with his fastball and uses his 6-foot-4 build to create downhill plane. His over-the-top delivery enables him to stay on top of a low-80s slider that features two-plane depth at its best as well as a mid-70s curveball with similar shape. He has begun to use a low-80s splitter as a change of pace, and it along with his fastball and slider all could be solid offerings as he gains more strength and consistency.

A short strider on the mound, Lohman has an upright delivery with a high release point. He doesn't have optimal shape on his fastball and slider, so he'll have to locate them well to succeed against more advanced hitters. He's an average athlete who provides a decent amount of strikes, and there's still plenty of projection remaining in his lanky frame.

Lohman was a steady buildup at Fort Zumwalt North HS, northwest of St. Louis. He didn’t show much velocity with a fastball only in the upper 80s as a junior, and that initially made him a low priority with many figuring he was set to honor his commitment to Missouri. Instead, he turned heads with a little extra heat as a senior, along with a pair of interesting breaking balls, and he attended the MLB Draft Combine in Arizona. The Mets selected him in the eighth round and signed him for well above slot at $797,500 (late third-round money) to keep him out of the SEC.

That improved velo pushed Lohman’s fastball into the 91-95 mph range, and with his size at 6-foot-4, he can create downhill plane from a high release point. He’ll work with both a mid-70s curveball and low-80s slider that have promising two-plane depth. The curveball might be a better fit for his over-the-top delivery, but both pitches have the chance to become at least average Major League quality. His low-80s splitter was a work in progress but looks like a pitch with some promise.

Lohman uses short strides on the mound, rather than getting big extension, and that’s what leads to the high release. He’ll either need to improve the shape of his fastball and slider or locate them exceptionally well in pro ball to get the most out of both offerings against pro bats, but as a prep arm, he’ll be given plenty of time and space to work on both goals. There could be even more strength coming in his projectable frame, and the Mets, who have a run of pitching development success, could be the right org to get the most out of Lohman’s budding potential.
