Bodine quickly established his hitting bona fides as a Coastal Carolina freshman in 2023, ranking fifth in the Sun Belt Conference with a .367 average before batting .384 in the Cape Cod League (which would have edged future No. 1 overall pick Travis Bazzana for the title if he hadn't fallen just short of qualifying). His numbers haven't been quite as strong the last two seasons, though he has carried a tiny 8 percent strikeout rate throughout his college career. After leading the Chanticleers to a runner-up finish at the College World Series, he could be the first catcher drafted and land in the first round.
A switch-hitter who's equally proficient from both sides of the plate, Bodine has some of the best contact skills in the Draft. He has tremendous feel for the barrel and doesn't try to do too much, focusing on controlling the strike zone and drilling line drives from gap to gap. He rarely launches balls in the air and has displayed little pop with wood bats on the Cape, though optimistic clubs hope he'll be able to make adjustments to his flat swing and get to 15 or more homers per year.
Bodine's lack of athleticism and agility limits him a bit behind the plate, though his instincts help. He's one of the best framers in college baseball but still needs to clean up his receiving and blocking. His fringy arm strength plays up thanks to his quick release, helping him erase 39 percent of basestealers as a junior.

The Orioles used their first two picks on catchers in the 2025 Draft, taking Ike Irish from Auburn 19th overall before selecting Bodine from Coastal Carolina 11 picks later. Bodine proved himself as a hitter throughout his collegiate career, batting .367 as a freshman then hitting .384 in the Cape Cod League, .328 as a sophomore and .318 in his final season, when he led the Chanticleers to a runner-up finish in the Men’s College World Series. Bodine received a full-slot bonus of $3.11 million, played 11 games for Single-A Delmarva then went to the Rays as part of the prospect-laden Shane Baz deal.
Bodine is a polished player in every aspect of the game. He’s a switch-hitter who’s an equally capable contact hitter from both sides of the plate. Evaluators rave about his feel for the barrel, praising his consistent ability to square up the ball with both swings. He pairs that with a good feel for the strike zone and a simple approach in which he doesn’t try to sell out for power, instead focusing on gap-to-gap line drives. That obviously limits his power potential, and he’s shown little pop throughout his career, but there’s a chance he could tweak his swing to lift a few more homers.
Defensively, Bodine has quick hands and moves his glove extremely well, which made him one of the best pitch-framers in college baseball. That trait should serve him well behind the plate, and he’s earned early praise for controlling the strike zone and handling pitchers. He’s not the best athlete behind the plate, but he has quick feet and good instincts. His arm strength is good enough when paired with his quick release, and he was an effective thrower in his junior season. Between Nathan Flewelling, Bodine and Dominic Keegan, there’s some hope that the Rays will find an internal solution to their long-running issues developing a homegrown catcher.

Bodine's numbers weren't quite as strong the past two seasons, though he carried a tiny 7.9 percent strikeout rate throughout his college career. After leading the Chanticleers to a runner-up finish at the Men's College World Series, he was the second catcher taken in the 2025 Draft, signing with the Orioles for full slot of $3.11 million. Baltimore traded him to the Rays in the offseason as part of the Shane Baz deal.
