After four years at Archbishop McCarthy High School in Florida, Jimenez headed just a little bit south to start his college career at Miami. After a freshman year of sporadic playing time and production, he entered the transfer portal and headed north to the Orlando area to play at Central Florida. It’s proven to be a good move as the Draft-eligible sophomore has had a very productive season for the Knights, earning All-Big 12 second team honors and being added to the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year watch list, awarded to the best college shortstop each season.
A strong right-handed hitter, Jimenez offers an intriguing collection of tools at a premium position. His swing works particularly well on pitches middle-in, and he’ll show off at least above-average raw power to his pull side, getting to it consistently in games this year. He can go the other way at times, but without as much impact. He absolutely crushes fastballs but struggles with softer stuff, as he has a tendency to chase breaking balls out of the zone.
Jimenez’s standout defensive tool is his easily plus arm that works from anywhere on the infield. He has decent actions and a chance to stick at shortstop with an overall improved defensive game, though he can get a little too flashy at times. There isn’t a ton of track record with him, but teams that like the power potential from a middle infielder could buy in, with a move to second or third always a possibility.

Jimenez bounced around Florida as an amateur with four years at Archbishop McCarthy HS followed by one season each at Miami and Central Florida. After only limited playing time with the Hurricanes, he was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection with the Knights in 2025 after hitting .329/.407/.575 with 11 homers and 11 steals in 55 games. He was Draft-eligible as a sophomore, and the Mets, who love such a profile, took him in the third round with their second overall choice of last year. Jimenez signed for below slot at $564,000 before getting in 26 contests with Single-A St. Lucie.
Jimenez has strength in his 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame, and his above-average raw power was something the Mets highlighted as a reason they took him where they did. It’s not exactly all-fields pop though, and he’s at his best when he’s getting out in front of balls and driving them with authority to the pull side. (Ten of the right-handed slugger’s 11 homers in 2025 went to left or left-center.) Jimenez handled fastballs well with UCF but expanded the zone against sliders and changeups, and both trends carried over into the Florida State League.
Entering his first full season of pro ball, Jimenez earns his strongest grades for his plus arm strength as he’ll unleash absolute ropes from anywhere on the dirt. He has the right actions for shortstop right now after improving his defensive game in college, and while he can look too flashy at times, he should get plenty of chances to stick at the six. An above-average glove would lessen the need for him to improve his plate discipline at the upper levels.
