San Pedro de Macorís has emerged as a veritable hot bed of baseball talent on a yearly basis, often producing big leaguers with one of the highest per capita rates in the Dominican Republic. Pio has the tooled-up lean and wiry look that many of his predecessors – such as Alfonso Soriano – did at the same age. There is loads of projection to dream on with Pio’s 6-foot-1 frame, bolstered by the fact that he’ll be just 16 when the 2026 international signing period officially opens.

There’s presently plus raw power coiled up in Pio’s strong right-handed swing, which often ends with a one-handed follow through. While he’s currently power-over-hit, he does frequently rip the ball from gap-to-gap. Pio has loads of bat speed but he’ll need to refine his pitch selection and chase rate in pro ball. Ultimately, it’s a high-risk, high-reward offensive profile, one that could pay significant dividends with the right adjustments.

Pio’s long strides and clean actions make him a logical fit on the grass. He covers lots of ground with his above-average run tool and he figures to also impact the game on the bases should he reach at a high enough clip. With sound defensive tools and a nose for the ball, Pio has the look of an outfielder who can man all three spots as he moves up a system. The complete package has something of a Drew Stubbs look to it if it all clicks.

Pio was ranked No. 32 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 50 International Prospects list for the 2026 signing period, and he was one of three ranked prospects signed by the Mariners when the period opened in January. Pio led all of them with his $3 million bonus, one of two to get seven figures, and the toolsy outfielder went out and made a good first impression with his debut in the Dominican Summer League.

A right-handed 5-foot-11 hitter with current wiry strength, Pio has a chance to have impact at the plate in the future. It’s a power-over-hit profile that might always include some swing-and-miss to go along with a ton of raw power to tap into. He’s an aggressive hitter who already shows the ability to find pitches on the inner half and lift them to his pull side. While he displays impressive bat speed, there is some length to his swing because of a bat wrap in his setup, and he has work to do in terms of recognizing spin and overall plate coverage.

Pio will show off plus run times, but will probably settle into being an above-average runner with some base-stealing acumen. He could be a better-than-average defender in center field with good range and an average arm, though he might end up as more of a fourth outfielder when all is said and done.
