Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 60 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 50 | Overall: 50

Twenty big leaguers have come from San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic, just eight of whom are pitchers. Hidalgo has shown early promise in adding to that group, as a 6-foot-4 left-hander, the type of demographic that nearly every organization covets. He’ll still be just 16 years old when the 2026 international signing period opens, giving him a long leash of development despite already having been a full-time pitcher for the past 3-4 years.

Hidalgo operates in the low 90s – and has topped out around 95 mph – with his four-seam fastball, utilizing his loose and lanky limbs to give batters something of a different look on the mound. He hides the ball well on his front side, using his extra-large frame to create extension and cut down the hitters’ reaction time. In addition to the heater, he has a slider that could be his best pitch in the long run as he refines his ability to throw it in all counts. Hidalgo also works with a changeup but hasn’t needed it much against amateur competition.

Command of those offerings will be the key in determining if Hidalgo can reach his extremely high ceiling. His control can ebb and flow from one outing to the next but scouts point to his clean and repeatable delivery as having a balancing-out effect; in time (and there is a lot of it), there is optimism he can develop into a reliable big league starter.

The Orioles tend to sign more position players than pitchers from the international market, but they’ve made good decisions with the hurlers they’ve targeted, seeing prospect success with arms like lefty Luis De Leon and righty Esteban Mejia. They think Hidalgo is more advanced at his age than either of those guys were, making him a highlight of their 2026 class when they signed him out of the Dominican Republic for $700,000.

A 6-foot-4, 170-pound left-hander, Hidalgo has a great frame for a 16-year-old pitcher, more space to fill out and already features premium stuff for his age. His fastball gets up into the mid-90s, and he also throws a sharp slider that has potential to be a plus pitch. He may work to develop a changeup down the line as he faces better competition but doesn’t need one very much right now.

Hidalgo is still learning to control his body and throw strikes consistently, but he has a low-effort, repeatable delivery and creates some deception with his long limbs. He was young for his class and has a long road of development ahead but has an extremely high ceiling if the command part clicks.
