Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 40 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 40

The track record of right-handed-hitting high school catchers in the Draft has not been a particularly good one, with as many (if not more) misses than hits. Perhaps the most recent success story is Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson, a first-rounder a decade ago. Harvey is another tall, strong prep backstop who, while not expected to go as early as Stephenson, has excited Florida scouts about his all-around abilities in a class not deep in catching.

Strong and powerful, Harvey has shown off some excellent offensive skills in high school and on the summer showcase circuit. He has tremendous raw power that he's shown he can get to in games. While he’s power-over-hit, there’s a split camp over just how big the disparity is. Some have seen a player with an excellent approach who can drive the ball the other way, while others have seen him pull the ball hard but struggle with pitches down in the zone because of a stiff setup. He doesn’t swing-and-miss much, which does bode well for him getting to his power in the future.

Harvey has every chance to stick behind the plate, with good hands and solid receiving skills. He moves well, especially for his size. He has excellent arm strength but might need to clean up his throwing mechanics to get to all of it consistently. The fact he’ll be 19 at the time of the Draft might bounce him from some team models, meaning he would be eligible again in two years as a sophomore at Florida State if he doesn’t sign this year.

The Padres have talked about giving him and fellow catcher/2025 pick Truitt Madonna work around the diamond as they try to get both players reps behind and at the plate in the lower Minors.
