Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 45 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 60 | Overall: 45

Félix Hernández, Johan Santana and Carlos Zambrano were Venezuela-born aces who went on to make multiple All-Star appearances. While prep pitchers are notoriously difficult to project, Delzine fits the mold of everything that an organization could dream upon: a three-pitch arsenal, mid-90s velocity and a powerful physique to boot. He trains with Jonathan Melián of Sluggers Corporation in Puerto La Paz, Venezuela, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.

Already clocked as high as 93 mph as an amateur, Delzine is just scratching the surface of his velocity potential. His 6-foot-5 build portends to there being much more in the tank, particularly as he gains reps, continues to add muscle and works with more advanced data upon joining a big league organization. His other two offerings are behind his heater, but his throwing motion is free and easy, while displaying a powerful lower half that keeps the stress off his arm.

From a young age, Delzine has displayed an uncanny ability to pepper the strike zone. Whereas some young hurlers forgo command in favor of radar-gun readings, the righty has managed to balance the two as he continues to hone his arsenal. Scouts are most excited about his well-above-average command, and with his growing frame, all the ingredients are there for Delzine to have the makings of a durable starter.

2025

Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 55 | Changeup: 55 | Control: 50 | Overall: 40

Delzine signed for $500,000 out of Venezuela in January, receiving the fifth-highest bonus given to any pitcher in the 2025 international class. That's the most Boston has paid for an international pitcher since landing Chih-Jung Liu for $750,001 in 2019. He was trending up at the time he turned pro with an impressive combination of stuff, polish and projection.

Delzine already works in the low 90s and touches 94 mph with armside run on his fastball at age 17, with the promise of more velocity as he fills out his 6-foot-5 frame. His size and high three-quarters arm slot allow him to stay on top of his upper-70s curveball with downer break, and it also should add more power as he gets stronger. He has a tumbling mid-80s changeup that he sells with fastball arm speed, and assistant GM Eddie Romero said his cambio was one of the most advanced the Red Sox have scouted on that market.

A quality athlete, Delzine has better body control than most tall pitchers his age. He keeps his long limbs in sync in his fluid delivery and should have no difficulty throwing strikes. He'll need plenty of time to develop but it's possible to dream of him winding up with three plus pitches and control to match.
