Picturesque beaches attract visitors to Anzoátegui, Venezuela, which is where Rivas, a gifted outfielder with five-tool potential, is plying his craft ahead of the opening of the 2025 international signing period. The state has produced big leaguers Avisaíl García, Miguel Cairo and Willians Astudillo, among others over the past two decades, with Rivas’ upside being among the highest of the group. One evaluator bestowed a George Springer comp on Rivas, projecting what he could look like at the next level if it all comes together.

In an age of advanced analytics that help decipher the players best equipped to contribute at the highest level, Rivas has impressed in multiple regards. His bat speed is consistently above the Major League average, checking in around 75-76 mph, while also producing exit velocities consistently north of 100 mph. There is already advanced raw power coiled up in his right-handed swing, it will just be a matter of making enough consistent contact against advanced pitching to tap into his nearly endless supply of offensive potency.

Much like how Springer came up as a rangy center fielder who was able to track down balls in the gap, the same goes for Rivas at this stage of his development. He has a plus throwing arm that could also fit in right if a move is necessitated, but for now, scouts have confidence in his ability to hold down center. Rivas has ripped off 60-yard dash times clocked as fast as 6.5 seconds, a glimpse into the kind of potential he could have both on the basepaths and defensively.

Rivas drew some George Springer comps as an amateur in Venezuela before signing with the Red Sox for $950,000 in January. His five-tool potential earned him the second-highest bonus in Boston's international class, trailing only the $1.4 million paid to Dominican shortstop Dorian Soto. Rivas has lived up to expectations in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League and will make his anticipated U.S. debut in 2026.

Though he still has plenty of room to add strength to his lanky 6-foot-2 frame, the righty-hitting Rivas already stands out with his bat speed and exit velocities. He has yet to tap much into his plus raw power, but he is showing the ability to turn on pitches and lift them in the air. His swing can get long at times and he'll have to prove he can handle advanced pitching, yet he does display some promising patience at the plate.

Rivas' speed, arm and defense all grade as plus. He has clocked 6.5-second times in the 60-yard dash and is an aggressive basestealer with at least 20-20 upside. A no-doubt center fielder, he has good instincts to go with his quickness and an unusually strong arm for the position.
