Downers Grove (Ill.) HS had gone 13 years since its last pick before George Wolkow went to the White Sox in the seventh round of the 2023 Draft, eventually signing for $1 million. It didn’t have to wait nearly as long for the next one as another AL Central club, the Tigers, chose Warwick from the same school in 2024, signing him out of the 12th round for $247,500. Warwick’s pro debut came this summer in the Florida Complex League, where he was an above-average hitter with a .262/.414/.379 slash line, three homers and 22 steals in 47 games. He moved to Single-A Lakeland for a late-season dip into full-season ball.
Batting from the left side, Warwick stays upright in his stance before employing a toe tap to generate some momentum in his swing. He showed solid swing decisions and contact rates in the FCL and likely would have been ready for the Florida State League much earlier had the Tigers had the space in the big stadium in Lakeland. That said, he needs to add strength to his 6-foot-1 frame. There is room for projection there, but right now, his overall impact is his biggest room for growth.
Warwick is at least an above-average runner, and he shows both aggression and savviness in picking his spots on the basepaths. He has the range for shortstop but has seen time at second base early on because of developmental necessity for others in the organization. The Tigers seek out up-the-middle prospects who can hit a bit, and Warwick has done his best to fit into that mold early on.
