Reyes signed out of the Dominican Republic in January for $450,000, the fifth-highest bonus for a pitcher in the 2024 international class. He debuted in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League in June, spinning 16 scoreless innings with 17 strikeouts and just two walks. Afterward, the Red Sox had him focus on strength rather than getting more game action.
Just 17 years old, Reyes has the makings of a fine three-pitch arsenal that begins with an effortless low-90s fastball that reaches 94 mph with sink and run. He has good feel for a mid-80s slider and a mid-80s changeup that fades and sinks. Boston may try to add a cutter to his mix in the future.
Extremely projectable at 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, Reyes could work in the mid-90s once he's fully developed physically. He's very advanced for his age, with a clean delivery and the aptitude to locate his pitches where he wants and also to manipulate their shapes. Though he's just getting started, he has one of the highest ceilings among Boston's pitching prospects.
