Matic didn't turn 17 until six months after he signed for $850,000 out of the Dominican Republic in January 2024, so the Yankees had him spend his first two pro seasons in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. He made a successful U.S. debut this summer, slashing .283/.394/.439 in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League. He led the FCL with 61 runs in 58 games and ranked second with 63 hits, 17 doubles and 98 total bases.
A right-handed hitter with a patient approach, Matic makes consistent contact and uses the entire field. He draws plenty of walks but also carried a 23.1 percent strikeout rate in the FCL because he can get passive and works deep counts. He hits the ball harder than most teenagers and could develop 25-homer power if he adds strength and learns to drive balls to his pull side more often.
Though Matic is a fringy runner, he's aggressive on the bases and has swiped 32 bags in 150 career games. He has the desired arm strength for third base but isn't especially rangy and committed 13 errors in 48 games there this spring. If he can't stick at the hot corner, first base and perhaps the outfield corners would be his other options.
