The Reds are always active players on the international market and it was no different during the 2024 international signing period. They focused much more on bats, with seven of their top bonuses – all six figures or more – going to hitters. Down the list was Torres, a six-foot right-hander who got $30,000 to sign with the organization when the period opened in January of that year. He was among the Dominican Summer League’s leaders in ERA, WHIP and batting average against, then came stateside in 2025 and was equally dominant over 38 1/3 Arizona Complex League innings.
While a bit undersized, Torres is strong and stocky and his intriguing combination of feel for pitching and solid all-around stuff points to a future as a starter. He has three usable pitches, all of which are average but could be better as he progresses. His fastball sits in the 91-94 range, and he’s shown the ability to maintain his velocity throughout outings, he spins a low-80s curve very well and has good feel for an 85-87 mph fading changeup.
All of his offerings play up because he’s shown a very strong feel for throwing them all for strikes, especially for his age. He’s walked just 1.9 per nine in his brief pro career heading into 2026, with the hopes of him having at least above-average command in the future. He’s yet to show he can answer the bell in a full-season rotation, but the Reds are bullish on his ability to start long term. Other organizations have definitely noticed his early success as well.
