Scouting grades: Fastball: 65 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 50 | Overall: 50

Mississippi has produced just one prep pitcher selected in the top two rounds since the turn of the century: unsigned Dodgers first-rounder J.T. Ginn in 2018. The Magnolia State may have another in Harmon, who combines velocity and projectability better than most high school arms in the 2025 Draft. He can run his fastball to 99 mph with ease and can add a lot more strength to his slender 6-foot-5 frame.

Harmon sits at 93-96 mph with his fastball, delivering it on a flat approach angle with carry and arm-side run. He'll manipulate the shape of his solid slider, varying it from a low-80s sweeper to a harder, tighter version to an upper-80s cutter. He hasn't had much need or shown much feel for his low-80s changeup.

For a tall teenager, Harmon does a nice job of keeping his delivery in sync and pounding the strike zone, though he'll sometimes rush his mechanics with runners on base. The Mississippi State commit moves well and uses his size to create extension that allows his pitches to get on hitters quickly. He generates premium velocity with athleticism and arm speed rather than effort and could be a frontline starter with continued development of his secondary pitches.

2026

Scouting grades: Fastball: 65 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 50 | Overall: 45

Konnor Griffin, JoJo Parker and Cooper Pratt are among the Mississippi natives carrying weight for Magnolia State prep hitters, but the high school pitching side has been less distinguished. Entering 2025, only J.T. Ginn (2018, first round) had been drafted in the first three rounds as a Mississippi high school arm this century, and he didn’t sign. Harmon -- a standout at East Union HS, Class 2A state champion in 2025 -- broke that streak when he went in the third round to the Nationals last July and signed away from his Mississippi State commitment with a $2.5 million bonus. Only top overall pick Eli Willits signed for more in Washington’s 2025 Draft class.

It's easy to see what the Nats were dreaming on when they devoted so much bonus pool space to Harmon. The right-hander stands 6-foot-5 and already sits 93-96 mph with a fastball that can flash impressive carry and armside run. He runs that heater up to 99, and as he adds strength to that frame, he could reach the upper 90s with even more ease on the pro side. His slider earned strong reviews as an amateur too, and he showed two versions: a low-80s sweeper and a harder upper-80s version that bordered on being a cutter. Like many young arms, he didn’t have a need for his low-80s changeup, but that will change quickly.

Harmon uses his size and athleticism to get to his enticing velocity but won’t overthrow for it, something that aids the hope he’ll be able to stick as a starter. He can rush his mechanics at times though, and keeping himself in rhythm will go a long way on the pro side. There’s upside for the top half of a rotation if he can squeeze out some more promising secondaries.
