Coming out of San Diego’s St. Augustine HS, Boles got time on the showcase circuit in 2024 and even started the High School All-American Game in his native city at Petco Park that August, picking up a pair of strikeouts in his lone frame. He had a commitment to Texas and looked likely to head to Austin as the 2025 Draft passed before the Royals selected him in the 18th round. Kansas City eventually signed the right-hander for $500,000 ($350,000 of which counted toward its Draft pool), and that was the sixth-highest bonus in the organization’s 2025 class.

Already standing in at 6-foot-5, Boles is all about projection. He ran his fastball up to 94 mph in his final amateur season, and it’s easy to dream on him sitting mid-90s more regularly as he fills out that frame with strength in the pros. His low-80s slider also shows present and future promise with impressive spin and sharp movement to the glove side. He can also flash a solid mid-80s changeup to give him an offspeed pitch going the other way while his slow curveball doesn’t look like a true weapon.

Boles could be all around the zone at times heading into the Draft, and tightening up his slinging delivery should be a focus on the pro side. The Royals tend to take things slowly with prep arms early in their careers, and Boles will be no exception as he’ll open his age-19 season in the Arizona Complex League with the goal of cracking Single-A Columbia at some point in 2026. He has received positive reviews from Royals officials for his willingness to take pro-level instruction, and that combined with his stuff gives him higher upside than a traditional 18th-round flier.
