Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50

Lantigua is an evolving player with premier talent and is already one of the most interesting prospects on the international market. The Dominican teen has drawn comparisons to Mariners superstar Julio Rodríguez in terms of size, speed and athleticism. He has a natural feel for hitting with some pop and easy power at the plate. Overall, he shows a good approach when he’s in the batter’s box, handles the fastball well and might end up as a power bat in one of the corner outfield spots.

His plus speed combined with plus arm-strength potential make him a fit in center field or one of the corner spots. Scouts have praised his overall makeup and work ethic. In short, he’s a gamer, and he’s able to translate his skill set into game action.

Lantigua trains in the Dominican Republic with Cristian Batista, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.

The Mets’ 2024 international signing class was headlined by catcher Yovanny Rodriguez, who accounted for $2.85 million of the club’s $5.284 million signing pool. Coming in behind the backstop was Lantigua. Ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 41 international prospect this year, the outfielder joined the New York system for $950,000. He spent his first full season in the Dominican Summer League, and entering July 26, his 148 wRC+ ranked 18th among 167 qualified players aged 17 or younger in the circuit. He was named a DSL mid-season All-Star.

The right-handed slugger measures in at 6-foot-1 and might still grow further from here. He showed easy power at the plate as an amateur, and while he only hit one homer through his first 30 games, he can exhibit strong top-end exit velocities already. He should be able to tap into that pop more as he continues to fill out his frame and add strength. The swing does come with some length, however, and while he showed he could handle a fastball before signing, contact might become a bigger issue the higher he climbs.

Lantigua can flash solid run times for now, but there’s a decent chance he could slow down as he fills out. He’s primarily a center fielder these days but already has seen some time in the corners (more right than left). His power should play fine if he needs to stick there instead.
