Offering upside from both sides of the plate, Andujar is an intriguing switch-hitting shortstop with a high ceiling. Scouts note the teen’s gap-to-gap power, poise at the plate and performance in two-strike counts. Andujar scarcely strikes out and doesn’t swing-and-miss very often either. He is aggressive on the basepaths and looks for opportunities to steal. He isn’t a burner yet, but projects to get faster as he matures and his body develops. Added muscle will pave the way for more power at the plate.
On the other side of the diamond, Andujar is a natural shortstop with soft hands and plus arm potential. He makes routine plays as well as the more difficult stops. Scouts applauded his awareness, range and noted his good internal clock.
Andujar trains in the Dominican Republic with Aguila Baseball Academy, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.

The Rockies don’t shy away from going after middle infielders on the international market, with Ezequiel Tovar the biggest success story of the past several years. They added Andujar to the system when the 2024 signing period opened, giving him $1.7 million to sign. One of the top infielders in the class, he went to the Dominican Summer League for his pro debut and showed off some good contact skills, hitting .292 with a .376 on-base percentage, but leading to some concerns about future impact.
One of the youngest players in the class who didn’t turn 17 until late July, Andujar certainly has time to figure things out. He starts out with a pretty good feel for hitting from both sides of the plate. He can find the barrel routinely and makes a ton of contact. He struck out just 13.5 percent of the time, isn’t afraid to hit behind in the count and even drew some walks. He needs to add strength so he can impact the ball more, even if power isn’t ever a big part of his game after slugging .352 in his debut.
More strength should also augment Andujar’s speed. He likes to run despite having just average speed at present and he moves well defensively at shortstop. He has good hands and an arm that could develop into a plus for him at the premium position. His ability to slow the game down gives him an even better overall defensive package and something he can lean on to help his team win if his bat is slow to develop.

In July 2017, it was Ezequiel Tovar. Two years later, Adael Amador led the class. Dyan Jorge was next up in 2022. So it should have come with little surprise when the Rockies again went after, and signed, one of the top shortstops in this year’s international amateur class. Andujar, who was No. 17 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 50 International prospect list when the 2024 signing period opened in January, got $1.7 million to sign, and like Tovar and Jorge, he will get his pro career started in the Dominican Summer League.
Andujar is a switch-hitter who has shown some offensive upside from both sides of the plate. He finds the barrel consistently with high contact rates, rarely strikes out and isn’t afraid of hitting with two strikes. Right now it’s gap-to-gap thump, at best, but if he can add strength to his frame, there should be more power to come in the future.
While he isn’t a burner, that added strength should allow Andujar to add speed as he matures as well, and he’s already aggressive on the basepaths and likes to steal. He has all the makings of a solid shortstop, with soft hands and an arm that could eventually be plus. His defensive tools play up because he has excellent instincts and awareness to go along with a good internal clock.
