Morales is a big-bodied prospect with the potential to develop into a difference-making power bat. He’s shown the ability to manage the strike zone and is patient enough to draw walks consistently. When he gets his pitch, he turns on it quickly and drives the ball to all fields with authority. He flashes home run power and more is on the way.
Like most teenage prospects, he’s working on repeating his mechanics in the batter’s box, but that should improve once he signs with a team and receives daily instruction at the club’s academy. Added strength and muscle could slow him down and move him from the middle infield to third base or a corner outfield spot, but the teen has the ability to play anywhere on the field. His arm strength, soft hands and footwork will help in the transition to another position if necessary.
Scouts have praised Morales’ makeup, high baseball IQ and leadership abilities. He trains in the Dominican Republic with Fausto Garcia and Jaime Ramos, members of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.
Born in Spain, Morales trained in the Dominican Republic before signing with the Dodgers for $1.9 million in January. The top prospect in Los Angeles' 2024 international class, he had one of the higher offensive ceilings on the market. In addition to his bat, he also earns praise for his high baseball IQ and work ethic.
Morales has a quality right-handed swing and an advanced approach for a teenager. He manages the strike zone well, working counts in search of a pitch to drive and taking advantage when he gets one. With his bat speed and the projectable strength and leverage in his 6-foot-3 frame, he could have plus power once he's fully developed.
Scouts debate whether Morales will outgrow shortstop but he's surprisingly athletic for his size. Though he moves well at shortstop, he's a fringy to average runner who won't have the range for the position if he loses some quickness as he fills out. With his power potential and solid arm strength, he'll fit the third-base profile nicely if he has to change positions.
