Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

Born in Burlingame, Calif., Moss moved across the country to attend IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., when he was in eighth grade. He became a regular on the summer showcase circuit, including appearances at the East Coast Pro Showcase and the Area Code Games, and developed into one of the top-ranked Draft prospects in the state. The Rays reached into their backyard to select Moss with the 67th overall pick in the 2025 Draft, signing him for an above-slot bonus of $2,097,500.

Moss’ hit tool is his finest trait, as he seemingly always found a way to get the barrel on the ball in high school despite a number of moving parts in his left-handed swing. He’s a twitchy athlete with plus bat speed, and he combines an ability to control the strike zone with an all-fields approach against all types of pitching. He’s hit-over-power right now, no surprise given his age and experience, but there is some raw power to tap into as he adds strength and learns to leverage his swing more effectively.

Moss was primarily a center fielder in high school, and he has shown good instincts in the outfield. He has a solid arm, but the lack of plus speed could push him into a corner spot. The Rays generally give their outfielders a chance to prove they can stick in center, although they’re also quick to expose them to multiple spots in case a move is necessary. Time will tell if his bat can provide corner-outfield power, but the Rays clearly believed in his offensive upside enough to give him the chance.

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

Moss grew up in California, but headed across the country to attend IMG Academy in eighth grade. He was a constant presence on the summer showcase circuit, appearing at the East Coast Pro Showcase and the Area Code Games, among others. He was robbed of an extra-base hit at MLB’s High School All-American Game by IMG teammate Sean Gamble, but he showed enough prowess at the plate to be considered one of the top players in Florida for the 2025 Draft. He stayed in the state by going to the Rays with the 67th overall pick and signed for above-slot at $2,097,500.

Moss’ hit tool is what stands out more than anything else. He routinely finds the barrel with an outstanding left-handed swing. He has plus bat speed and has shown he can use the entire field, with a fearless approach and the ability to turn around any pitching. He’s more hit-over-power right now, showcasing more bat-to-ball skills than the ability to drive the baseball. But there is raw power for him to tap into, especially to the pull side, though he’s still learning to leverage the ball consistently.

Primarily a center fielder in high school, he’s shown good instincts and takes good jumps, reads and routes. There’s some question whether he’ll stay there long term as he’s an average runner, and a lack of speed could push him to a corner. That would put a bit more pressure on the former LSU recruit’s bat to provide more thump, but his feel for hitting certainly caught the Rays’ interest.
