Scouting Report

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 45 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

The state of Missouri produced three quality prep shortstop prospects in the 2024 class. D-backs fourth-rounder Tytus Cissell was seen as having the best athleticism of the trio, Drew Dickerson was the most physical but went undrafted on his way to the University of Oklahoma and Snyder – Missouri’s Gatorade high school player of the year -- had the most polish and highest floor. He went to the Mets in the fifth round (12 picks after Cissell) but signed for roughly second-round money with a $1,322,500 bonus. Snyder played in six games with Single-A St. Lucie to mark his pro debut.

The former Tennessee commit impressed amateur scouts with his good swing decisions as a righty hitter. That hit tool is part of the reason why New York decided to give him a quick look at the Florida State League, and the approach could help him take off even more quickly in a return there this spring. There was some concern about his power coming into his senior year, and that remains to some degree even after he added strength. If he continues to hit the ball harder, there is the upside of a 20-homer hitter in his 6-foot-1 frame.

Snyder could flash plus run times when he really got going as a high schooler, but his added strength did slow him down some when it came to going home to first. He has the hands and internal clock for shortstop, while his arm strength and limited range could make him a candidate for third, where he made a pair of FSL starts.

2024

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 45 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

The Missouri high school ranks featured three interesting shortstops in this year’s Draft. There was some belief that Snyder's polish and floor make him the best prospect of the trio, giving him the edge over Tytus Cissell's athleticism and Drew Dickerson's physicality. In fact, he went 12 picks later than Cissell (132nd overall to the D-backs) as a fifth-round pick but signed for more with a $1,322,500 bonus (roughly late second-round money).

Gatorade's Missouri high school player of the year, Snyder is a steady right-handed hitter who makes good swing decisions and provides consistent contact. He didn't show much power on the showcase circuit last summer but has gained some strength and hit the ball harder this spring. His biggest backers believe he has 20-homer upside, though others think his pop is more fringy.

Similar questions surround Snyder's ability to remain at shortstop. While he has flashed plus straight-line speed in the past, he has produced below-average home-to-first times this spring after adding muscle. He has reliable hands, solid arm strength and a good internal clock at shortstop, but diminished quickness could land him at third base.

The Missouri high school ranks feature three interesting shortstops. The consensus is that Snyder's polish and floor make him the best prospect of the trio, giving him the edge over Tytus Cissell's athleticism and Drew Dickerson's physicality. If he doesn't go early enough in the Draft to sign, Snyder could make an immediate impact as a freshman at Tennessee next spring.
