Like his father, five-time All-Star Jeff Kent, Kaeden is an offensive-minded infielder who's best suited for second base. A part-time player for his first two years at Texas A&M, he was thrust into the lineup during the 2024 NCAA tournament by an injury to first-rounder Braden Montgomery, and he responded by hitting a grand slam in the Super Regionals and going 10-for-24 (.417) at the College World Series. After starting at shortstop for the Aggies as a junior, he signed for $741,900 as a third-rounder.
Kent lacks a standout tool but some scouts project him as an average hitter with the potential for similar power. He has a quality left-handed stroke and controls the strike zone well, making consistent line-drive contract from left-center to the right-field line. He doesn't swing for the fences but does press too much at times, and he'll need to drive balls in the air more regularly to make the most of his 15-20 homer pop.
Kent compensates for below-average speed with a high baseball IQ. Though his internal clock helps him make plays at shortstop, his fringy range and average arm strength won't allow him to stay at the position. He's at least an average defender at second base.
