DeBerry made two junior college stops at Northern Oklahoma-Enid and Grayson College in Texas before arriving at Dallas Baptist in 2023. He went from a reliever that spring to a starter in 2024, and the Brewers took him in the third round of that summer’s Draft, adding him for just $25,000 as a senior sign. DeBerry reached Double-A Biloxi as a starter in his first full season and has returned there for ’26 with some highlight performances including back-to-back outings with 10-plus strikeouts in early July.
The 6-foot-3 right-hander can look pencil-thin on the mound, not too dissimilar from a shorter Jacob Misiorowski. He still hasn’t added significant velocity through two seasons of pro ball, instead sitting 91-93 mph with his fastball, but there are a good amount with which he can attack batters. His low-80s slider is best among them with good sweep running away from righties; he consistently gets whiffs with it low and to the gloveside. He can yank the chain on a mid-80s changeup too and get empty swings on that below the zone. An upper-80s cutter (a nice bridge pitch) and an upper-70s curveball (more dipping breaking ball) round out the arsenal.
DeBerry showed good control in 2025 with a walk rate of just 7.3 percent, but he’s been about four percentage points above that in ’26 while he’s been too fine around the zone at times. That’s understandable given he won’t blow his fastball by you, but finding that right mix will be an objective ashe continues to work through the upper levels.
