Though he signed for just $75,000 out of Venezuela, early returns indicate that Mogollon may be the best prospect in Chicago's 2023 international class. He slashed .315/.417/.582 in his pro debut, ranking fourth in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League with 10 homers. He stands just 5-foot-8 and is a long way from the Majors, but he offers one of the more intriguing combinations of hitting ability and power potential in the system.
While he won't be a true slugger, Mogollon has stunning raw pop for his age and size, already producing occasional tape-measure shots -- at age 17, he had a maximum exit velocity of 105 mph. He has a quick right-handed stroke and already shows some feel for driving the ball in the air. He doesn't try to do too much at the plate and has a knack for putting the barrel on the ball.
The rest of Mogollon's tools are average, though he's a savvy and aggressive runner on the bases. He plays under control in the middle infield, with his range and arm best suited for second base. He saw some action at shortstop in 2023 and the White Sox want to give him more time during his U.S. debut this year.
