Scouting Report

2025

Scouting Grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 40 | Run: 70 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

Gil was one of eight players the Braves handed out bonuses of six figures or more to at the start of the 2023 international signing period, starting with the $2.5 million Luis Guanipa received. Gil was at the bottom end of that group, getting $110,000 to join the organization, but his tools have stood out as much as anyone from the Braves class as he’s played his way from the Dominican Summer League in 2023 to the Florida Complex League and up to full-season Augusta during his United States debut in 2024 at the age of 18.

In his brief time as a pro, Gil has already stood out for some loud tools, led by his close to top-of-the-scale speed. He’s at least a 70 runner, one who stole 40 bases in 48 attempts over 90 combined games in 2024. He’s shown a knack for contact and can really punish fastballs and he’s impressed with his overall approach, not chasing, drawing walks and getting on base (.376 on base percentage heading into 2025). He hasn’t shown much impact offensively yet, but there’s optimism that there is some juice to come in his right-handed swing as he gains strength.

While Gil has seen time at both shortstop and third thus far, he has a real chance to stick at short long-term and the plan is to largely keep running him out primarily at the premium position, with a lot of range and enough arm to handle it.
