Scouting Report

2024

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 55 | Arm: 50 | Field: 55 | Overall: 40

Miami opted to spread its 2023 international bonus pool money around rather than making a huge splashy signing, handing out seven-figure bonuses to 17 different players. Valor turned pro for $520,000, the third-highest bonus in the class. He was the top offensive performer on the Marlins' Rookie-level Dominican Summer League club in his pro debut, batting .294/.360/.466.

A right-handed hitter, Valor has a large, projectable 6-foot-3 frame that should translate into significant power once he matures physically. He already exhibits promising bat speed and exit velocities, and he regularly launches balls in the air to his pull side. He shows some feel for hitting too, though his overly aggressive approach resulted in a 24 percent K rate in the DSL.

Valor moves well for his size, posting solid to plus run times and using his quickness to steal bases and chase down balls in center field. If he loses some speed as he gains muscle, he might wind up moving to an outfield corner. He has average to solid arm strength and would profile well in right field.

2023

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 55 | Arm: 50 | Field: 55 | Overall: 40

In the past two years, the Marlins have opted to spread their international bonus money around to several players, rather than sinking a huge chunk of it into one top target. That approach has enabled them to land several interesting players with mid-range bonuses, including Valor. He signed for $520,000 out of Venezuela in January.

Valor is built to hit for power with a projectable 6-foot-3 frame that can add significant strength to his quick right-handed swing. He already shows the ability to drive balls in the air, though he can get overly pull-conscious. He has some feel for hitting, but that hasn't translated into consistent contact yet.

Valor presently has solid speed and uses it well to steal bases and cover ground in center. He could lose a step as he matures physically, which might dictate a move to an outfield corner. He possesses average arm strength that could improve a tick as he gets stronger.
