The biggest acquisition for the Reds on the international market when the 2023 signing period was catcher Alfredo Duno, who received $3.1 million, and the organization gave a seven-figure bonus later in the period to ink Sheng-En Lin. Third on the 2023 bonus list was Alcantara, signed initially as a shortstop out of the Dominican Republic for $640,000 in January of that year. He performed well enough during his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League to come stateside in 2024 and struggled with the Arizona Complex League assignment. A return to the level the year after paid dividends, and he earned a bump to full-season Daytona for the first time. The Reds saw enough to move him to High-A Dayton to kick off his age-20 season in 2026.

Alcantara, an undersized infielder at 5-foot-9, is a right-handed hitter with an aggressive approach at the plate. After striking out over 36 percent of the time during his U.S. debut, he's worked to refine his approach, cutting down on his swing-and-miss considerably in 2025. He has gap-to-gap power right now, with some ability to impact the ball, and limiting chase and continuing to see pitches and draw walks should help him maximize his offensive potential.

While he was signed as a shortstop and saw plenty of time at the premium position over the first three summers of his career, Alcantara doesn't have the range to stick there long-term. He has the arm strength for third, and he's splitting time between the hot corner and second base, which might be the best option for him should he settle into one position permanently in the future.
