Because Scarborough didn't attend many showcase events while dividing his time between baseball and basketball as a Florida prepster, he didn't attract as much scouting attention as he deserved and lasted until the sixth round of the 2023 Draft. After he gave up a Dallas Baptist commitment to sign for an over-slot $515,000, a strained lat restricted him to 10 1/3 innings in his first two years as a pro. He broke out last year with a 2.45 ERA between two Class A levels and a 27 percent strikeout minus walk rate bettered by only three Minor Leaguers who pitched as many as his 88 innings: Payton Tolle, Trey Yesavage and Jonah Tong.
Scarborough went from operating with an upper-80s fastball as a high school senior to pitching at 93-95 mph and touching 97 during his first extended pro season, and it has excellent shape coming out of a low release height with plenty of carry and armside run. The Rangers had him scrap the soft curveball he used as an amateur, and he now has a nasty low-80s slider with high spin rates and big sweep. He barely has worked on a changeup but shows some feel for a mid-80s cambio that drops at the plate when it's working.
Scarborough's unusual delivery makes him difficult to hit. He's 6-foot-5 and gets down the mound so well that he creates elite extension and a flat approach angle, and his quality athleticism allows him to repeat his mechanics and pound the strike zone. He still has room to add strength to his lanky frame, which means he could continue to add power to his stuff and enhance his chances of pitching in the front half of a big league rotation.

More of a basketball player as a Florida high schooler, Scarborough didn’t attend many showcase events and flew under the scouting radar for most of his prep career. The Rangers loved his athleticism, projectability and delivery metrics enough to draft him in 2023’s sixth round and sign him away from a Dallas Baptist commitment for an over-slot $515,000. A strained lat delayed his pro debut until last July and limited him to 10 1/3 innings in 2024.
Very much a work in progress, Scarborough can touch 96 mph with his fastball in the first inning and then top out at 93 in the second. If he adds velocity as expected once he fills out his lanky 6-foot-5 frame, he could have a special heater because his mechanics create a great deal of carry and armside run. He entered pro ball with a soft mid-70s curveball that needs more power, and Texas had him focus instead on a low-80s slider last summer.
Scarborough’s effortless delivery creates a flat approach angle and elite extension. He has provided consistent strikes in his first extended taste of pro ball in 2025, though he barely has begun to dabble with a sinking mid-80s changeup. He has proven more polished than expected and is one of the more intriguing young arms in the system.
