Rodriguez has tons of projectability and a good strong body, and he has a chance to be an offensive-minded shortstop with power potential.
For now, his bat is a little more advanced than his glove, but he continues to make progress on both sides of the ball. He has the potential to stay at shortstop because of his solid arm, soft hands and footwork.
Rodriguez hits from the left side and has shown the ability to drive the ball to all fields with authority. More power is expected as his body matures and he adds strength. He has also been praised for his makeup and baseball IQ. Rodriguez is a natural. His father played in the Minor Leagues for the Tigers organization.
Rodriguez is trained by Victor Marmolejos, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program. The D-backs are among the teams who have shown strong interest in him.

Rodriguez was the D-backs’ biggest international addition in 2023, signing with the club for $1.25 million out of the Dominican Republic in January. He didn’t last long in the organization after a strong walk rate and OBP in the Dominican Summer League caught the Mets’ eye, and New York acquired him in a one-for-one swap for Major League outfielder Tommy Pham at the Trade Deadline. Rodriguez went 19-for-45 (.422) with eight extra-base hits, 11 walks and four strikeouts in 13 games for a Mets’ DSL affiliate after the move, further solidifying his status as a prospect to watch in his new organization.
Batting from the left side, Rodriguez was nearly stellar at protecting the plate in his first professional season, especially considering he didn't turn 17 until July. His 1.06 BB/K ratio ranked third among the 15 qualified DSL players playing in their age-16 seasons in '23. With only three of his 18 extra-base hits leaving the yard, his power plays best to the gaps, but it was always likely he’d need some time to get the pop to play in games.
The 6-foot infielder boasts above-average arm strength needed for long throws from shortstop, and while he’s just an average runner, he has the hands and footwork to keep getting work at the six. Notably, the Mets got him some looks at second base to keep his athleticism up the middle. Rodriguez will take his advanced approach stateside with plenty of development still to come.

Ranked No. 47 on MLB Pipeline’s 2023 Top 50 International Prospects list, Rodriguez signed with the D-backs for $1.25 million out of the Dominican Republic, making him the organization’s biggest international addition last January. He was off to a solid start in the Dominican Summer League with a strong walk rate and OBP and caught enough of the Mets’ eye to be included in a Trade Deadline deal for Major League outfielder Tommy Pham. Rodriguez went on a late tear for the Mets’ DSL affiliate, going 19-for-45 (.422) with eight extra-base hits, 11 walks and only four strikeouts in 13 games.
The left-handed slugger has been at his best protecting the plate early on in his career. His 16.1 percent swinging-strike rate was 18th-best among 299 DSL qualifiers, and his 1.06 BB/K rate placed 41st in a circuit known for its wildness from the mound. Rodriguez showed mostly gap power in the early stages of his career, but even when signing with Arizona, it was expected that he’d need time to develop physically before the pop could truly come. He didn’t turn 17 until July 4, making him one of the youngest DSL qualifiers this year.
The infielder’s arm strength is his best defensive asset, but he has the hands and footwork to stick at shortstop, so long as there is an opening for him there (he did get two starts at second base with the Mets). Because of his age, there remains a long road of development ahead for Rodriguez, but there are already some interesting building blocks entering his second year of pro ball.
