Suero moved from his native Bronx to the Dominican Republic as a teenager, a path that allowed him to sign with the Mets for $10,000 in March 2022. Despite the low bonus, he’s played his way into prominence since then, first with strong showings at two A-ball levels in 2024 and then at High-A and Double-A last season. He hit .233/.379/.407 with career highs in homers (16) and steals (35) over 115 games with Brooklyn and Binghamton before getting in 15 more contests in the Arizona Fall League.
Standing only 5-foot-11, Suero flashes some fascinating traits that make him such an interesting prospect. He’s an above-average runner on any scale and especially quicker than other catchers; his 35 steals were tops among all Minor League backstops last year, and he went 8-for-8 on theft attempts in the AFL. That athleticism helps him behind the plate as he moves quickly out of the crouch and uses his above-average arm strength to register pop times in the 1.8-1.9-second range. He was relatively new to catching and still has room to grow back there, and the Mets plan to continue to rotate him between left field and first base, keeping other avenues open.
Suero brings exciting bat speed from the right side and can pack a punch, maxing out with a 112.5 mph exit velocity in the AFL. There’s at least above-average raw power in there, but perhaps he swings with too much intent. While he shows discipline with his swing decisions, Suero can get wild with his hacks in the zone, and he posted just a 66.8 percent contact rate overall in 2025. Unless he finds a way to get the bat on the ball more consistently, he’s headed toward a backup (or even third) catcher role that can fill in elsewhere when needed.

A native of the Bronx, Suero was far from a significant addition when he signed with the Mets for $10,000 out of the Dominican Republic in March 2022 at 18 years old, but he’s caught the attention of many in the organization in short order. After two solid Complex-level seasons in the D.R. and Florida, Suero opened 2024 with Single-A St. Lucie and was promoted to High-A Brooklyn after only 25 games, having slashed .265/.390/.434 with a 141 wRC+. He continued to be productive in the South Atlantic League with a .228/.353/.350 line in 87 games to round out his age-20 season.
A little undersized at 5-foot-11, Suero stands out more for his surprising athleticism. He’s at least an above-average runner, flashing plus times out of the box from the right side, and he stole 20 bags across both stops in 2024, fifth-most among Minor League catchers. He was relatively new to catching when he signed, and Suero focused mostly back there in his first two seasons but expanded his defensive resume to first base and left field last year. That has carried into 2025 at Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton.
Suero runs a simple operation as a hitter, looking calm before unleashing an uppercut swing. That helps him elevate on contact, aiding his pullside power but also leading to a good amount of harmless popups. He chased less at High-A than Single-A but whiffed more against soft stuff. It’s an OBP-driven hitting profile for now, but if he can play multiple premium positions at a high level, his future will only get brighter.
