Scouting Report

2024

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 40 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

Glod was on the international map when he starred for the 15U Venezuelan national team. The Braves were thrilled to get him for $1.3 million when the 2022 signing period -- their first without any sanctions -- opened in January, joining Diego Benitez ($2.5 million) in the seven-figure bonus club. While Glod hasn't been able to produce great numbers, either during his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League or in his 2023 United States debut in the Florida Complex League, he's shown enough glimpses of his raw tools to still have the Braves bullish about his future.

A right-handed hitter, Glod has proven to be able to hit the ball about as hard as anyone in the system, when he makes contact. It's more line drives than anything right now, though he started to drive the ball a bit more in the FCL, registering some of the highest exit velocities in the organization. He also sees pitches, draws walks (17.9 percent walk rate entering 2024) and doesn't chase out of the zone much, but the concern comes from how much swing-and-miss there is at strikes, with close to a 31 percent strikeout rate in 2023.

Short and stocky, the 5-foot-9 Glod does not have much projection in his frame. He has slowed down a tick, and while he played center field exclusively in his debut, he split time between center and right in the FCL and all signs point to him needing to move to a corner full-time eventually. That puts more pressure on him making adjustments at the plate contact-wise so he can tap into his offensive potential to profile in an outfield corner.

2023

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 40 | Run: 55 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

The Braves couldn't wait to be full-time players in the amateur international market again when the 2022 signing period began that January. With all sanctions lifted, they had their full bonus pool, and they used a large chunk of it on two players: shortstop Diego Benitez -- who received $2.5 million -- and Glod, a former 15U Venezuelan national team star, who got $1.3 million. Glod had a pedestrian pro debut last summer in the Dominican Summer League.

Just 18 for all of the 2023 season, Glod still has plenty of time to figure out how to turn his raw tools into production. He's a right-handed hitter with bat speed and a solid swing, one with a good feel for the barrel at times, capable of making hard line-drive contact. While he saw pitches and drew walks in the DSL, his strikeout rate is a bit concerning, and he's going to have to add strength and show he can impact the ball more.

Glod runs well and has the chance to play center field, the spot he manned exclusively in his DSL debut. His stocky 5-foot-10 frame doesn't point to much projection, and he could slow down a tick to push him to an outfield corner. His ceiling is tied to his bat, and he'll have to develop some more thump to profile in a corner spot.

2022

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 40 | Run: 55 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 40

Allowed to use their full allotment of international bonus pool money for the first time in a few years, the Braves went all in when the 2022 international signing period opened in January. Diego Benitez was the headliner, signing for $2.5 million. But Glod, a former standout in international competition for the 15U Venezuelan national team, wasn't far behind, also getting seven figures ($1.3 million) to sign.

While he's just 17 for the 2022 season, Glod already brings some big tools to the table. The right-handed hitter has excellent bat speed and good swing mechanics, showing an ability to make consistent and hard contact. It's more of a line-drive approach right now, and it remains to be seen how much strength he adds and what kind of power he develops.

Glod is an above-average runner and can handle center field for the time being. He's a bit undersized and stocky, so there isn't much projection in his frame, with some scouts thinking he'll slow down and move to a corner. He has the arm to profile there and how the run production progresses will determine his ceiling.
